A method for the encryption and decryption of digital images based on cyclotomic polynomials and radiometric expressions comprising the steps of generating an encrypting transform, partitioning the digital images into data blocks, along with encrypting, transmitting, and decrypting the data blocks. Three common radiometric expressions are fundamental metamers, black metamers, and radiometric functions. In one embodiment, the mathematical equation that represents the encrypting transform is a cyclotomic polynomial. In another embodiment, a cyclotomic polynomial is used to calculate the coefficients of the mathematical equation that represents the encrypting transform. In other embodiments, the encrypting transform is generated with a radiometric expression, and the encrypted data blocks are calculated with a radiometric expression.

Cryptographic method for color images and digital cinema

A method and apparatus for selectively applying image enhancement processing to parts of an image. In one embodiment, spatial processing transformations, such as sharpening for example, are reduced or bypassed for pixels having color code values within a range known to be adversely affected by the spatial processing transformations. In another embodiment, color correction processing transformations are bypassed for pixels having color code values within a neutral color range. These neutral colors may have a gray-correction transformation applied in order to better separate the neutral colors from the other colors. According to another embodiment, color code values for pixels are transformed to two or more different color spaces. If a color correction transformation will have adverse affects on a pixel in one color space, corrected data from a different color space can be utilized for the pixel.

Method and system for selective enhancement of image data

A method of developing a latent image on a photographic element (such as imagewise exposed photographic film) by absorbing a dye precursor into the film, applying a developer solution to the film to develop the latent image and form a dye in the film, scanning the film with light, and detecting at least one of light reflected away from and light transmitted through the film.

Digital film processing method

A mixed-element stitching and noise reduction system includes apparatus and methods for producing an image dataset having a reduced noise content without substantially impacting image reproduction accuracy. Such noise reduction is provided by replacing a portion of a first, higher noise image dataset with a portion of a second, lower noise dataset. In a preferred embodiment, two image datasets comprising a color-stitched image and a luminance image are received from a DFP image capturing system. The received images are preferably separately stitched and separately converted to a color-space in which a luminance data channel is separated from image color information. The luminance channel of the luminance image is then preferably substituted for the luminance channel of the color-stitched image. More preferably, a log-time stitching technique is used and the stitched images are each converted to an L*a*b* color space.

Method and system for using calibration patches in electronic film processing

A method of processing a digital image comprising the steps of: providing a pixellated digital image having noise components; measuring the noise components in the digital image with a noise estimation system to generate noise estimates; and sharpening the digital image with an image sharpening system which uses the noise estimates.

Sharpening system adjusted for measured noise of photofinishing images

A method for processing a digital image comprising the steps of: providing a digital image from an original image on exposed photographic media; determining the exposure of the original image; and based on the exposure, sharpening the digital image using an image sharpening system. A method of processing a digital image comprising the steps of: providing a digital image from an original image on exposed photographic media; determining the type of the photographic media and magnification to produce the final image; and based on the type of the photographic media, sharpening the digital image using an image sharpening system. A method of processing a digital image comprising the steps of: providing a digital image from an original image on exposed photographic media and magnification to produce the final image; determining the type of the photographic media; determining the exposure of the original image; deriving the print grain index from the media type, magnification, and exposure of the original image; determining the sharpening level of the digital image based on the print grain index; and sharpening the digital image using an image sharpening system.

Sharpening algorithm adjusted for measured exposure of photofinishing

A method of digital image processing for degraining (smoothing) of images based on selected averaging of pixels in a neighborhood of pixels surrounding a target pixel to be recalculated. Improvement in the application of the selected average method to images of higher graininess such as might be obtained from higher speed films is achieved by weighting the difference in code values between each neighborhood pixel and the target pixel in accordance with a function that is related to physical distance between the neighborhood pixel and the target pixel. After all target pixels are recalculated using a selected fraction of pixel elements based on their distance weighted difference values, the process is iterated for each target pixel 'n' number of times to achieve a desired relative code value of the target pixel to surrounding background pixel code values whereupon a final unweighted averaging operation is performed to achieve the final recalculated value of the target pixel.

Digital image processing method for degraining of film images using

A color negative photographic film wherein on the curve of density versus log E for each color sensitive record: (1) a straight line, which connects the point at density Dmin+0.1 and the point at 1.5log E above the exposure required for density Dmin+0.2, has a mathematical slope .ltoreq. 0.50; and (2) the difference in log E is .gtoreq.1.7 between the point 0.9log E above the exposure required for density Dmin+0.2 and the point where the density difference is 0.1 between the curve and the straight line which results from a linear regression of the three density points at exposures 0.3log E, 0.9log E, and 1.5log E above the exposure required for the density Dmin+0.2; and (3) the difference in log E is .gtoreq.1.20 between the exposure needed for density Dmin+0.1 and the point that corresponds to the exposure, in lux-seconds, of 9.2/(Film Speed). The exposure of the foregoing gray card is a typical normal exposure based on the film speed rating (i.e. the film is not overexposed or underexposed).
