Wireless communication enabled circuit breakers are described. Methods associated with such wireless communication enabled circuit breakers are also described. The wireless communication enabled circuit breakers may controlled by a remote entity. The remote entity may wirelessly case the wireless communication enabled circuit breakers to trip.

Communication enabled circuit breakers

Communication enabled circuit breakers are described. Methods associated with such communication enabled circuit breakers are also described. The communication enabled circuit breakers may include one or more current sensors. The one or more current sensors may be disposed in a clip. The clip may be coupled to a line side phase connection, and the clip may be shielded to attenuate signals.

Communication enabled circuit breakers and circuit breaker panels are described. Methods associated with such communication enabled circuit breakers and circuit breaker panels are also described. A circuit breaker panel may include a circuit breaker controller and one or more communication enabled circuit breakers. Two-way wireless communication is possible between the circuit breaker controller and the one or more communication enabled circuit breakers.

Communication enabled circuit breakers and circuit breaker panels

Multi-pole and single-pole circuit breakers include a housing and a reset lockout mechanism disposed within the housing. The reset lockout mechanism disables electrical communication between line and load terminals of the circuit breaker if a predefined condition exists. Some circuit breakers include a single actuator, transition between ON and OFF states, and are capable of performing test functions. The test functions may involve testing AFCI and/or GFCI functions of the circuit breakers. The test functions may be performed when the circuit breaker transitions from an OFF state to an ON state. Some circuit breakers including a reset lockout mechanism may be powered only on its line side. Some circuit breakers provide an electrical indication when they are in the OFF state.

Circuit breakers incorporating reset lockout mechanisms

In aspects of the present disclosure, a circuit interrupter includes a housing, a conductive path, a switch which selectively interrupts the conductive path, sensor(s), memory, and a controller within the housing. The sensor(s) measure electrical characteristic(s) of the conductive path. The memory stores an arc detection program that implements a machine learning model and includes a field-updatable program portion and a non-field-updatable program portion, where the field-updatable program portion includes program parameters used by the non-field-updatable program portion to decide between presence or absence of an arc fault. The controller executes the arc detection program to compute input data for the machine learning model based on the sensor measurements, decide between presence of an arc event or absence of an arc event based on the input data, and cause the switch to interrupt the conductive path when the decision indicates presence of an arc event.

The present disclosure generally provides controls, apparatus, systems and methods for controlling a ventilation mechanism to efficiently manage the relative humidity of an area. The controls, apparatus, systems and methods utilize sensed relative humidity information and one or more inputs to provide for efficient automatic and/or manual control a ventilation mechanism in response to high humidity events within the area. The controls, apparatus, systems and methods provided herein efficiently automatically activate a ventilation mechanism through the use of sensed relative humidity information and user input. The controls, apparatus, systems and methods provided herein efficiently automatically deactivate a ventilation mechanism through the use of sensed relative humidity information and user input.

Apparatus and methods for controlling a ventilation mechanism

A circuit interrupter device for selectively connecting a source of AC power from a line side to a load side of the circuit interrupter device includes a controller powered from a source of AC power from a line side. The controller initializes a self-test and determines whether the self-test was successful. The controller outputs a self-test result signal. An electrically-held relay of the device, which is in communication with the controller and is powered from the line side, stays in an OFF state until the self-test result signal indicates the self-test was successful, and enters an ON state if the self-test was successful. When in the OFF state, a load side of the circuit interrupter device is not in electrical communication with the source of AC power, and when in the ON state, the load side is in electrical communication with the source of AC power.

Apparatus, systems and methods for performing ground fault self-testing

Circuit interrupting devices are provided. One circuit interrupting device includes a fault sensor configured to output a sensor signal; a voltage sensor configured to sense a reference voltage; and a controller configured to determine an occurrence of an actual fault based on the sensor signal and the reference voltage. The circuit interrupting device further includes an amplifier configured to receive the sensor signal and the reference voltage and output an amplified signal; an analog-to-digital converter configured to receive the reference voltage and the amplified signal and output respective digital signals corresponding to the reference voltage and the amplified signal; and a line interrupt assembly configured to interrupt current flow through a conductive path when a characteristic of the sensor signal exceeds an actual fault threshold.

Processor-based circuit interrupting devices

A zero-crossing detection method, and devices incorporating the method, enable a selectively enabled bias to pull-up a zero-crossing signal, thereby enabling monitoring of the zero-crossing of both half-cycles of the alternating current (AC). This improves synchronization of the device in noisy environments and enables the detection of dimming problems during either half-cycle. Aspects can detect improper dimmer firing events on either polarity of the power cycle and restore normal dimmer operations when needed.
