The present invention relates to a method for coating catheter balloons with the pharmacological agent paclitaxel and the biological and biodegradable polymer composition shellac and optionally further components. Moreover the present invention relates to paclitaxel and shellac coated catheter balloons obtained according to the coating methods disclosed herein as well as the use of such coated catheter balloons for the short time release of the pharmaceutically active agent paclitaxel for prophylaxis and treatment of restenosis especially restenosis caused by angioplasty. The coated catheter balloons can be used alone or in combination with a coated or uncoated stent crimped on the catheter balloon before or after the coating with shellac and paclitaxel.

Shellac and paclitaxel coated catheter balloons

The present invention is directed to catheter balloons and balloon catheters with such catheter balloons coated with at least one layer containing at least one antiproliferative, immunosuppressive, anti-angiogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-restenotic and/or anti-thrombotic agent and a top coat consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol&#x2014;polyethylene glycol graft copolymer as well as the use of these balloon catheters for the prevention of restenosis.

Balloon surface coating

The present invention is directed to a catheter balloon of a balloon catheter comprising a coating consisting of or containing at least one fatty acid, oil or fat and sirolimus as well as to the use of these systems and compositions. Optionally a stent is crimped on such a coated catheter balloon. Further, methods for coating the inventive catheter balloons are described.

The present invention is directed to a radially expandable vessel support having a multitude of annular elements flexibly connected to each other, defining a vascular support with a proximal and a distal end and a longitudinal axis. The annular elements are arranged side by side transversely to the longitudinal axis of the vascular support and connected to each other by means of bending elements. At least two marginally standing annular elements each are linked among each other by a pair of dumbbell shaped bending elements and centrally standing annular elements are linked among each other and to marginally standing annular elements by two S-shaped bending elements each, with at least the centrally standing annular elements being of a zigzag-shaped configuration.

Radially expandable vascular stent

The invention relates to a radially expandable vessel support which comprises a multitude of zigzag shaped annular elements (), interconnected in a flexible way by bending elements. Said annular elements define a vessel support () with a proximal and a distal end and a longitudinal axis, where the zigzag shaped annular elements () are arranged side by side across the longitudinal axis of the vessel support (), where zigzag shaped annual elements () are linked to at least one further annual element by means of at least one bending element which is comprised either of a pair of S-shaped bars () or of a pair of bow shaped bars () which are located diametrically on the circumference and whose apertures show into opposite directions.
