A heat sink assembly includes a heat exchanging section having a thermally conductive sheet folded into alternating ridges and troughs defining spaced fins having first and second end edges. The folded sheet is formed into a generally cylindrical configuration defining an axis. The troughs form an inner segmented cylinder, the ridges form an outer segmented cylinder generally concentric with the inner cylinder and the fins radiate generally outwardly from the axis. A thermally conductive core is provided within the inner segmented cylinder defined by the troughs of the cylindrically folded sheet to transfer the heat to be dissipated from the heat generating component to the heat exchanging section. A retainer is engageable with the cylindrically folded sheet generally at the second end edges of the fins. The heat exchanging section may be mounted above a base plate, with the first end edges of the fins being between the base plate and the second end edges of the fins and complementary interengaging latches are provided between the retainer and the base plate to hold the heat exchanging section therebetween.

A terminal system having a terminal ground plate portion with a hump projecting therefrom is adapted to terminate an inner metallic shield of a high speed cable, the cable having an outer jacket and the inner metallic shield with a portion of the outer jacket removed to expose a portion of the metallic shield. The hump has a slot for receiving the cable at a location along the cable in registry with the exposed metallic shield thereof. With the metallic shield maintained in the slot, a solder connection is established between the metallic shield and the ground plate portion at the hump.

System for terminating the shield of a high speed cable

An electrical connector includes an elongated dielectric housing having a central body portion with a front face, a rear face and at least three rows of terminal-receiving passages extending therebetween and including a top row, a middle row and a bottom row. A plurality of terminals are received in the passages and include top terminals received in at least some of the passages in the top row, middle terminals received in at least some of the passages in the middle row and bottom terminals received in at least some of the passages in the bottom row. All of the terminals have forward contact portions and tail portions projecting rearwardly from the body portion beyond the rear face thereof. The tail portions of the middle terminals are longer than the tail portions of the top terminals. A wire management platform projects from the rear face of the central body portion and includes a first top surface at which the tail portions of the top terminals are juxtaposed. A second top surface of the platform is offset from the first top surface and projects further from the rear face of the body portion than the first top surface and at which the longer tail portions of the middle terminals are juxtaposed. The platform includes a bottom surface at which the tail portions of the bottom terminals are juxtaposed.

Electrical connector with wire management system

An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing and a plurality of terminals mounted therein. A conductive ground blade is mounted in the housing and includes at least a pair of positioning arms projecting therefrom for engaging the metallic shields of a pair of coaxial cables. A partition on the housing extends between the positioning arms to separate the coaxial cables and maintain the metallic shields near the positioning arms.

Electrical connector including means for terminating the shield of a high speed cable

An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing and a plurality of terminals mounted therein. A conductive ground blade is mounted in the housing and includes at least a pair of positioning arms projecting therefrom for engaging the metallic shields of a pair of coaxial cables. An independent cable management member is mounted on the housing and includes a partition extending between the positioning arms to separate the coaxial cables and maintain the metallic shields near the positioning arms.

Electrical connector including coaxial cable management system

A plurality of terminals are assembled into a housing of an electrical connector. The terminals initially are joined by a carrier strip. The housing has a plurality of terminal-receiving passages along with an insertion slot communicating with and spanning a plurality of the passages. The terminals are inserted into the insertion slot in an insertion direction. The terminals and carrier strip are moved transversely of the insertion direction. The terminals and carrier strip may be moved again generally parallel to the insertion direction until the terminals are positioned in the terminal-receiving passages. The carrier strip is removed from the terminals after the terminals are seated into their passages.

Electrical connector and method of assembling same

The retention system is provided for a threaded member (14, 54) and an electrical connector (10) which includes a sheet metal shield (46) juxtaposed on a dielectric housing (32). A threaded hole (58) is provided in the shield (46) for 4 threadingly receiving the threaded member (14, 54). A hole (64) is provided in the dielectric housing (32) behind the threaded hole (58) in the shield (46) for threadingly receiving the threaded member (14, 54) after the shank 54 of the threaded member (14, 54) passes through the threaded hole (58) in the shield (46). During assembly, the threaded members (14, 15) self thread into interfering portions of the housing (32) defined by the housing holes (64) to thereby increase the resistance of threading in order to prevent stripping of the threaded holes (58) in the shield (46).

Retention system for electrical connectors

A grounding bridge for terminating the ground portions of an interconnect cable includes a conductive metal member having two leg portions extending at angles to each other. One leg portion is folded upon itself to define a partial enclosure which receives an internal coaxial cable of the interconnect cable therein along with a jumper wire while the other leg portion is offset from the one leg portion to lie flat against the metal shielding of the interconnect cable.

Grounding bridge for shielded interconnect cables and interconnect

An electrical connector includes a housing with terminal-receiving passages and female terminals therein. Each passage has a cross-section for receiving the terminal and cooperating therewith to prevent twisting of the terminal. The terminals each include an elongated planar body portion, a terminating portion extending rearwardly of the body portion and a contact portion extending forwardly of the body portion. The contact portion has a pair of laterally spaced-apart contact spring arms with mutually opposing contact portions defining a terminal-receiving mouth therebetween. The body portion includes a retention section having a pair of spaced-apart retention beams offset out of the plane of the body portion on opposite sides thereof.

Electrical connector having terminals with improved retention means

A system is disclosed for terminating the shield of a high speed cable having an outer jacket and an inner metallic shield with a. portion of the outer jacket removed to expose a portion of the metallic shield. The system includes a conductive two-part. terminating member including a cable receiving part and a terminal part. The cable receiving part includes a receptacle for receiving the high speed cable in direct engagement with the exposed metallic shield thereof. A solder connection is applied between the exposed metallic shield and the cable receiving part at the receptacle. The terminal part is adapted for grounding the metallic shield. The cable receiving part is mounted on the terminal part in conductivity therewith.

A method is disclosed for terminating the metallic shield of a high speed cable. The method includes the steps of providing a cable with an exposed portion of the metallic shield of the cable and a conductive terminating member having a plurality of positioning arms. Each arm is formable from an open position to a closed position. The metallic shields are soldered to a positioning arm while the arm is in its open position. Each arm is formed to its closed position to properly position the high speed cables.

A method is disclosed for terminating the metallic shield of a high speed cable which includes an inner dielectric inside the metallic shield, as well as a system for effecting the method. At least a portion of the outer jacket of the cable is removed to expose a portion of the metallic shield. An insulating member is positioned between the metallic shield and the inner dielectric of the cable. The cable then is positioned on a conductive terminating member having a portion in registry with the exposed portion of the metallic shield outside the insulating member. The metallic shield is soldered to the portion of the terminating member, as the insulating member protects the inner dielectric from the heat of the soldering step.
