A drawworks system for a mineral extraction system includes a drum mounted on a drum shaft and a motor assembly configured to drive rotation of the drum. The motor assembly includes a motor, a variable frequency drive positioned vertically above the motor relative to a skid, and a cooling assembly configured to cool the motor and the variable frequency drive. The cooling assembly is coupled to a housing of the variable frequency drive and is positioned vertically above a drive shaft of the motor relative to the skid.

A system includes a first transmission having a first planetary gearset, a first drive shaft, and a first annular sleeve. The first annular sleeve is positioned circumferentially about the first drive shaft, and the first annular sleeve is configured to move axially relative to the first drive shaft and the first planetary gearset from a first axial position in which the first annular sleeve engages a first sun gear of the first planetary gearset to a second axial position in which the first annular sleeve engages a first ring gear of the first planetary gearset to adjust a gear ratio of the first transmission.

Motor assembly for drawworks systems and methods

A drawworks system for a mineral extraction system includes a drum mounted on a drum shaft and configured to support a cable. The system also includes a gearbox assembly having a gearbox housing, a gearbox supported by the gearbox housing and having a gearbox input shaft and a gearbox output shaft, wherein the gearbox input shaft is configured to be coupled to at least one motor and the gearbox output shaft is coupled to the drum shaft to drive rotation of the drum shaft and the drum, and a brake supported by the gearbox housing and coupled to the drum shaft to block rotation of the drum shaft and the drum, wherein the gearbox and the brake are positioned on one side of the drum along an axial axis of the drawworks system.

Drawworks systems and methods

A hydraulically deactivated clamp is provided. In one embodiment, an apparatus includes a movable clamping element disposed between two opposing rings. A shrink ring is clamped between the movable clamping element and one of the two opposing rings, and a fluid port enables hydraulic deactivation of the movable clamping element. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.

A drawworks gearbox includes additional braking on the input side of the gearbox to provide a redundant emergency brake and, optionally, a separate parking brake with the drum-side brakes being the emergency brake. An air-cooled brake disc is attached to a high speed coupling connected to the gearbox input pinion. A hydraulic-apply, spring-release brake is mounted to the gearbox housing at each pinion location and arranged to act on its respective disc.

A top drive system is provided. In one embodiment, a top drive includes a drive stem and a load nut with mating threaded surfaces that enable the drive stem to be threaded through the load nut and to support weight of a connected drill string via the load nut. One or both of the mating threaded surfaces may have a threadform with one or more undercut thread roots. Additionally, a portion of the mating threaded surfaces, such as thread roots of the drive stem, can be shot-peened. Additional systems, devices, and methods are also disclosed.
