There is described an emergency lighting system for minimizing power leakage to assure proper operation of an emergency mode. The system comprises a digital addressable lighting bus having digital control lines, a driver, and a lighting control. The driver receives emergency power and provides the emergency power to a light emitter in response to detecting that the digital control lines are shorted. The lighting control receives normal power and includes a relay contact that shorts the digital control lines in response to detecting lack of the normal power. For another aspect, the driver and the lighting control are coupled to lighting control lines, which are either digital or analog control lines. For yet another aspect, a control bypass comprises a power unit, a relay coil, and a relay contact. The relay contact manages outputs of the power unit in response to activation and de-activation by the relay coil.

A lighting module configured to be powered by an external driver includes a light emitting diode (LED) array, and a control circuit configured to control current initially applied by the external driver to the LED array. A lighting system includes a driver configured to provide a constant current power supply and a plurality of lighting modules coupled to the driver. Each lighting module includes a light emitting diode (LED) array, and an integrated control module including an attenuator configured to attenuate current initially applied by the driver to the LED array in response to a received control signal, and a processor configured to generate the control signal to the attenuator.

An apparatuses, methods, and systems of determining a configuration of a lighting fixture are disclosed. One embodiment method includes setting a lighting control level of a first channel control line of the lighting fixture to a plurality of levels, setting a lighting control level of a second channel control line of the lighting fixture to a plurality of levels, sensing an amount of power dissipated by the lighting fixture, comparing the sensed amount of power dissipated for each of the plurality of levels, and determining a configuration of the lighting fixture based upon the comparing of the sensed amount of power for each of the plurality of lighting control levels for the first channel and the second channel.

A LAM/ICM assembly comprises an integrated control module (ICM) and an LED array member (LAM). The ICM includes interconnect through which power from outside the assembly is received. In a first novel aspect, active circuitry is embedded in the ICM. In one example, the circuitry monitors LED operation, controls and supplies power to the LEDs, and communicates information into and out of the assembly. In a second novel aspect, a lighting system comprises an AC-to-DC converter and a LAM/ICM assembly. The AC-to-DC converter outputs a substantially constant current or voltage. The magnitude of the current or voltage is adjusted by a signal output from the LAM/ICM. In a third novel aspect, the ICM includes a built-in switching DC-to-DC converter. An AC-to-DC power supply supplies a roughly regulated supply voltage. The switching converter within the LAM/ICM receives the roughly regulated voltage and supplies a regulated LED drive current to its LEDs.

LED array member and thermally decoupled integrated control module assembly

A light-emitting diode (LED) device includes first and second LED dies with the same structure and that are both encapsulated by the same silicone layer. The first LED is supplied with sufficient drive current to illuminate the LED. Control circuitry supplies the second LED with a constant current, determines the voltage across the second LED, and calculates the temperature of the second LED based on the voltage across the second LED. The constant current has a maximum magnitude that never exceeds the maximum magnitude of the drive current. The LED device is able to calculate the temperature of a diode with a gallium-nitride layer (GaN or GaInN) that is receiving a large drive current and emitting blue light by determining the voltage across an adjacent similar diode with a gallium-nitride layer through which a small constant current is flowing. Preferably, the band gap of the LEDs exceeds two electron volts.
