A system employing an ECG monitor () and a defibrillation advisory controller (). In operation, the ECG monitor () monitors a cardiac rhythm of a patient, and the defibrillation advisory controller () generates a defibrillation advisory based on a cardiac rhythm status and a metabolic cardiac status of the patient, and optionally further based on an electrical cardiac status of the patient. The controller () derives the cardiac rhythm status as monitored by ECG monitor (), and the optional electrical cardiac status inclusive of the cardiac rhythm monitored by the ECG monitor (), and derives the metabolic cardiac status exclusive of the cardiac rhythm monitored by the ECG monitor (). The controller () may compute or receive metabolic cardiac data indicative of the metabolic cardiac status (e.g., incorporating or coupled to a user input device (), a breath analyzer () and a blood analyzer ()), and compares the metabolic cardiac data to a metabolic cardiac threshold (fixed or variable) and/or monitors a trend of the metabolic cardiac data to derive the metabolic cardiac status of the patient.

Metabolic based prediction method for a successful defibrillation

An interactive apparatus which includes (a) a processing unit automatically implementing a cardiac treatment algorithm, by using detected signals from a patient and the cardiac treatment algorithm, to output a recommended treatment on an output device; and (b) an input device inputting a selection comprising an acceptance or a rejection of the recommended treatment, wherein if the selection comprises an acceptance, then the processing unit outputs instructions and further implements the treatment algorithm using the recommended treatment, wherein if the selection comprises a rejection, then the processing unit outputs an alternative recommended treatment on the output device, subject to acceptance or rejection by the input device.

Defibrillator/monitor with patient specific treatment algorithms

A system and method includes a cardiac resuscitation apparatus connected to an automated external programmable defibrillator (AED) or a semi-automated external programmable defibrillator (SAED) includes an adhesive Doppler pad to detect a pulse signal of a patient. Defibrillation-monitoring pads are connected to the Doppler pad and detect an ECG signal of the patient. A processor integrates the pulse signal and the ECG signal to determine therefrom whether or not shock therapy is advised for the patient.

Provided are a method and apparatus for assessing the chaotic nature of a waveform representation of heart function. The method and apparatus accomplish their objects via the following. An indicator of triangular-like components within a waveform representation of heart function is calculated. An indicator of an area encompassed by the waveform representation indicative of heart function is calculated. A ratio is calculated utilizing the calculated indicator of an area and calculated indicator of triangular-like components to assess the chaotic nature of the waveform representation of heart function. Additionally, a ventricular fibrillation index is calculated. The calculated ventricular fibrillation index is utilized, in two dimensional space, with the ratio that is calculated utilizing the calculated indicator of an area and the calculated indicator of triangular-like components to assess the likelihood of ventricular fibrillation based upon waveform representation of heart function. Further additionally, a minimum ventricular fibrillation index is calculated. The calculated minimum ventricular fibrillation index is utilized, in two dimensional space, with the ratio that is calculated utilizing the calculated indicator of an area and the calculated indicator of triangular-like components to assess the likelihood of ventricular fibrillation based upon waveform representation of heart function. The minimum calculated ventricular fibrillation is also utilized in one dimensional space to assess the likelihood of ventricular fibrillation based upon waveform representation of heart function.
