A user interface, system, method and software for displaying a simulated three-dimensional display of menu options to a user, thereby maximizing use of a display's real estate by presenting all available options at once while at the same time presenting certain options in a more pronounced manner. The system monitors for running applications, polls the running applications for any available options, and displays the options in the simulated three-dimensional format. With this type of dynamic menu, standard means for bringing focus to a selectable target create complexities, and are thus avoided by designing the system's cursor to duplicate the appearance of the selected target's shape, preferably in a smaller size.

Simulated three-dimensional navigational menu system

A method, system, propagated signal, and software for tracking and identifying moving hotspots allows a user to keep a cursor stationary in a display without causing the cursor to lose any functionality. A dialog box or other highlighting option will result in response to the static cursor co-occupying overlapping regions on the display with a moving hotspot of an animated menu, or a menu in motion. In an animated menu configured with extensive or rapidly moving hotspots, the present invention enables a user to wait for a hotspot to come to the cursor for detection and selection, rather than having to pursue the hotspot such that the cursor recognizes the target as a hotspot.

Method, system, and software for tracking moving hotspots with a static or moving cursor

A method of displaying graphical information using a &ldquo;lenticular-like&rdquo; interface is described. With a &ldquo;lenticular-like&rdquo; interface, the viewer is made aware that additional, usually complementary information is available besides that which is currently foregrounded in the display. This is accomplished by displaying a small but characteristic portion of the actual secondary field. In another embodiment the dominant field is made to look like a lenticular lens, which suggests to the user that a slight shift in view will bring the secondary field to the foreground. With a &ldquo;lenticular-like&rdquo; interface, this shift is accomplished by moving the cursor from one edge of the display field to the other edge.
