A bio-molecular contrast agent (BMCA) is introduced into a biological organism such that the agent binds or reacts with target tissue within that organism. The BMCA is also signal-giving, and signal reactive, capable of being inactivated by delivery of energy thereto. By monitoring the decrease in signal strength of the BMCA, the actual dosage delivered to the target can be determined and monitored. The decrease in BMCA signal strength can also be correlated to the level of destruction of the target, allowing for determination of therapy success.

A method is proposed for carrying out quality control on an analytical process which belongs to a group of related analytical processes that can be executed in at least one analytical device and includes a respective chain of sub-processes. The method includes fundamental chemical and/or physical underlying sub-processes being stored for the group in a first database. Further, at least one section of the chain of the analytical process is emulated by the specification of one of the underlying sub-processes for each sub-process in a section of the chain, using at least one control parameter and at least one corresponding threshold value. Finally, measured values are determined for the control parameters for at least one run of the analytical process and the measured values are compared with the corresponding threshold values for the quality control procedure.

A magnetic stimulation device has at least one stimulation coil, which is connected with its terminals to the output of at least one controllable electronic power converter and which has an inductance and current and voltage carrying capability, so that the stimulation pulses it generates permeate at least one volume on the order of magnitude of limbs, head or trunk of a patient. The controllable electronic power converter contains at least one activatable and deactivatable power semiconductor switch with short switching times. The electronic power converter is connected with its input to a voltage intermediate circuit. The voltage intermediate circuit and the controllable electronic power converter have a layout for high output voltages and currents, so that action potentials can be triggered even in deeper neuromuscular tissue of a patient, and the magnetic stimulation device offers wide freedom in the selection of the stimulation pulse shapes.

In a diagnostic magnetic resonance apparatus having an examination space, a radio-frequency antenna and a gradient coil system, the radio-frequency antenna is arranged closer to the examination space than is the gradient coil system. A radio-frequency shield arranged between the radio-frequency antenna and the gradient coil system, and has a first electrically conductive layer arrangement and a second electrically conductive layer arrangement arranged lying opposite the first arrangement, these being separated from one another by a dielectric. The layer arrangements have interconnects arranged side-by-side that are separated from one another by electrically insulating slots. The slots of the first layer arrangement are arranged offset relative to the slots in the second layer arrangement. Neighboring interconnects in at least one layer arrangement are connected to one another via bridges that conduct high-frequency currents, the bridges being arranged such that currents induced in the layer arrangement by the radio-frequency antenna can essentially flow only between the neighboring interconnects via the bridges.

In a combined radiofrequency antenna and gradient coil in a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus, radiofrequency signals are coupled into conductor loops of the gradient coil so that these loops are operated as elements of a radiofrequency antenna. The installation space for a separate radiofrequency antenna can thus be saved. Given the same patient-receiving volume, the diameter of the cylindrical opening of a magnet or the spacing between pole shoes can be reduced, so that the magnets can be more economically built.
