A navigation system for an automotive vehicle that travels on roads includes a vehicle positioning apparatus that determines location data associated with the vehicle. A source of attraction location data provides location data associated with a plurality of attractions that are of interest to a user of the vehicle. A processing device is communicatively coupled to the vehicle positioning apparatus and to the source of attraction location data. The processing device calculates a distance and direction from the vehicle to at least one of the attractions of interest. The calculating is based upon the location data associated with the vehicle and the location data associated with the attractions of interest. A graphical display arrangement is communicatively coupled to the processing device. The graphical display arrangement indicates the calculated distance and direction without graphically indicating orientation of roads on which the vehicle may travel.

Location based point of interest navigation system

A modular, portable writing and projection system having a variable curvature is disclosed. The system uses dry erase boards, chalk or black boards, or other flexible panels having at least one writing surface. The panels have edges for joining to posts. The system combines panels to form a large, modular system for use at meetings, gatherings or other assemblies. The system allows a large number of users to contribute to a presentation, and also allows users to view the presentation. Because the panels are flexible, the system may be curved, allowing more panels to be mounted, used, written on and viewed, within limited space. The panels may be used in either a convex or concave manner, i.e., curved in or curved out, as desired. The resistance of the panels to remaining in a curved state is overcome by feet on the posts and braking or holding devices on the feet.

An infotainment system is for a vehicle having a body defining an interior space. The infotainment system includes a playback device receiving and processing a plurality of sets of infotainment data. The infotainment data is organized in a hierarchy. The playback device transmits a plurality of sound signals. Each sound signal corresponds to a respective one of the sets of infotainment data. A plurality of speakers are communicatively coupled to the playback device. Each speaker is disposed at a different respective location within the interior space. Each of the speakers is adapted to receive a respective one of the sound signals and convert the respective sound signal into a corresponding audible sound. A user interface is communicatively coupled to the playback device. The user interface enables a user to navigate between levels of the hierarchy of infotainment data by making selections. Each of the selections corresponds to a respective one of the sets of infotainment data.

A home system includes a server having a first wireless communication port and a first non-wireless communication port. One or more fobs include a second wireless communication port adapted to communicate with the first wireless communication port of the server. One or more sensor nodes or device nodes different than the fobs include a third wireless communication port adapted to send information to or receive information from the first wireless communication port of the server. The server is adapted to determine if at least one of the fobs is out of range of wireless communication with the server and to responsively send information from the first non-wireless communication port of the server or to responsively send information from the first wireless communication port of the server to at least one of the sensor or device nodes.

An entertainment system is for a vehicle and includes a vehicle environment sensor apparatus that captures data indicative of the vehicle's environment and that generates a vehicle environment data feed. A video game console is electronically coupled to the vehicle environment sensor apparatus and has an application program interface. The video game console receives the vehicle environment data feed, operates a game medium, and generates a video output signal based on both the game medium and the vehicle environment data feed. At least one controller is communicatively coupled to the video game console and directs the operation of the game medium. A display unit communicatively coupled with the application program interface receives the video output signal and displays images dependent upon the video output signal.

Vehicle entertainment and gaming system

A wireless system includes a headless base station having a first wireless communication port, a fob having a user input device, a display and a second wireless communication port structured to communicate with the first wireless communication port of the base station, and various wireless nodes different than the fob. The wireless nodes include a sensor node, a device node and a range extender node. The wireless nodes have a third wireless communication port structured to send information to or receive information from the first wireless communication port of the base station. The fob is structured to respond to the user input device and determine if the fob is in range or out of range of wireless communication with the base station.

A handheld electronic device, such as a fob, includes a wireless communication port and a display alternatively displaying a first or right-handed display orientation and a second or left-handed display orientation. The first display orientation is inverted with respect to the second display orientation. A processor component cooperates with the wireless communication port and the display. The processor component is adapted to receive a wireless radio frequency message including one of a first state and a different second state from the wireless communication port. The processor component then responsively configures the display in the first display orientation responsive to the first state or alternatively configures the display in the second display orientation responsive to the second state.

A sensor node or a control device node is for a home system including a server and a fob. The node includes a household object, and a sensor, control or display device embedded in or substantially within the household object. The sensor, control or display device includes a first wireless port adapted to wirelessly communicate with the server, a second port adapted to communicate with the fob when the fob is proximate to the second port, and a processor operatively associated with the first wireless port and the second port. The processor is adapted to receive proximity information from the second port and responsively communicate with the server through the first wireless port, in order to configure the sensor, control or display device.

Home system, method and wireless node employing non-physical configuration of embedded device or sensor of a household object

A home wellness system includes a base station having a wireless communication port, a telephone communication port and a memory with a plurality of digital images. The system also includes a plurality of network devices, with at least one of the network devices having a sensor adapted to detect an event, and a wireless communication port adapted to send the detected event to the wireless communication port of the base station. Another device, such as a cellular telephone, includes a telephone communication port and a display. The telephone communication port of the base station is adapted to send one of the digital images to the telephone communication port of the cellular telephone responsive to receipt of the detected event at the wireless communication port of the base station. The cellular telephone is adapted to responsively display the one of the digital images on the display thereof.

A home wellness system includes a server having a wireless transceiver, a plurality of sensors each of which has a wireless transceiver adapted to communicate sensor information to the server wireless transceiver, and a portable display and configuration fob, the portable fob includes a rotary thumbwheel encoder, a display and a wireless transceiver communicating with the server wireless transceiver, the thumbwheel encoder and the display cooperate to provide a first rotary menu for displaying the sensor information of the sensors and a second rotary menu for configuring the sensors.

A home system includes a server having a first wireless communication port, and a plurality of devices, such as sensors. Each one of the devices includes a corresponding second wireless communication port. One or more of the devices is a timer/reminder sensor device associated with an object of interest. The timer/reminder sensor device includes a timer mechanism having a time input and an output. The timer mechanism is associated with the object and is adapted to input a time interval from the time input, time for the time interval and then responsively output to the output. The timer mechanism communicates the time input and the output of the timer mechanism between the second wireless communication port of the timer/reminder sensor device and the first wireless communication port of the server.

A plurality of sensors sense information and include a second wireless communication port, which sends the sensed information to the first wireless communication port of the server. The user interface of the server is adapted to configure the devices to output the control action responsive to: (a) at least one input from the sensors, (b) another input from one of the sensors or the user interface, and (c) a logic function applied to the at least one input from the sensors and to the another input from one of the sensors or the user interface.
