An arrangement for sensing temperature in an electric machine comprises a plate member including a first side, a second side, a perimeter portion, and at least one hole extending through the plate member from the first side to the second side. A mount is coupled to the plate member. The mount includes a retention surface, at least one first arm, and at least one second arm. The retention surface is removed from the first side of the plate member. The at least one first arm extends from the retention surface and engages the perimeter portion of the plate member. The at least one second arm extends from the retention surface and through the at least one hole of the plate member. A temperature sensor is positioned between the first side of the plate member and the retention surface of the mount.

A brush holder assembly for a dynamo-electric machine includes a brush fixture snap-fittingly secured to a shielding fixture. A brush member is moveably mounted within the brush fixture and includes a recessed region, and a shunt member. The shunt member includes a first end operatively connected to the brush member at the recessed region that extends through an intermediate region to a second end. A constant force spring is operatively connected between the second end section of the brush and the brush fixture. The brush holder assembly also includes a shunt retainer mounted in the brush fixture abutting the brush member. The shunt retainer includes a first leg portion, a second leg portion and a base portion. The shunt retainer is configured to maintain proper alignment of the constant force spring and prevent entanglement of the shunt member.

Brush holder assembly for a dynamo-electric machine

An internal cooling fan assembly for use with a claw-pole segment of a rotor assembly is provided that maximizes air flow while providing a reduced sound signature. The fan assembly includes a base portion that contacts the claw-pole segment when the fan assembly is mounted to the claw-pole segment. The fan assembly also includes a number of blades extending from the base portion such that the blades project outward from a plane normal to the rotor. The plurality of blades have a geometry that aligns with roots of the claw-pole segment. In addition, a first blade of the number of blades is of a first configuration and a second blade of the number of blades is of a second configuration different from the first configuration.

A cover assembly for one end of a rotating electrical machine includes a one-piece cover formed of plastic material attached to an end frame supporting at least one electrical component to protect said electrical component from external damage, the cover has an end wall and an axially extending side wall, the side wall has an end surface that engages the end frame; a mounting boss is disposed at the end frame; and a single fastener extends through the end surface. A clamp load at the single fastener securely holds the cover relative to the end frame.

Method and apparatus for attachment of a cover for a dynamoelectric machine

Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for fastening internal cooling fans to claw-pole segments are provided. A claw-pole segment suitable for use in a rotor of an electro-mechanical machine is formed. The claw-pole segment may include a base portion, at least one claw pole projecting axially from the base in a first direction, and at least one protrusion projecting axially from the base in a second direction opposite the first direction. A fan assembly that attaches to the claw-pole segment is also formed. The fan assembly may include at least one opening for receiving the at least one protrusion, and may be formed with varying configurations to affect the frequency response of the fan. The portion of the at least one protrusion extends through and beyond the opening of the fan assembly when the fan assembly is mounted on the claw-pole segment and expands in response to an application of an axial load, to secure the fan assembly to the claw-pole segment.

Systems and methods for fastening internal cooling fans to claw-pole electro-mechanical machines

An electronic package for an electrical machine preferably a rotary current generator includes a slip ring end (SRE) frame defining one end of a housing configured for mounting a rotor therein so as to be rotatable; a plurality of negative diodes dispersed in an angular fashion in the SRE frame acting as a negative heat sink; a plurality of positive diodes mounted on a separate electrically conductive plate located above a location of the plurality of negative diodes, the plate being configured as a positive heat sink having corresponding holes such that leads extending from each negative diode protrude directly therethrough and openings formed in the positive heat sink to engage a body of each positive diode; and a non-conductive separator fitted over a series of bosses that space the positive heat sink above a top surface defining the negative heat sink, the separator configured to electrically insulate the positive heat sink and negative heat sink from one another, wherein waste heat from the positive and negative heats sinks is to be carried off via vents configured in each and radially outwardly across surfaces defining each.
