Methods and apparatus for distributing link state information are provided. Network nodes propagate link state information via a control plane flooding operation. A first network node can initiate this propagation in response to a local link state change. In addition, some network nodes can via data plane messaging to transmit link state information to a remote node of the network. The remote node responds to the message by initiating a control plane flooding operation at that location. The remote node can be selected based on a variety of criteria, such as network traffic conditions, location, or network topology. Multiple remote nodes can be prompted in this manner to initiate flooding operations.

Distributing information in communication networks

A method for distributing link state information in a network includes receiving, by a first node, from a second node, a first control message including the link state information and a first set of forwarding instructions for selecting a network interface from a plurality of network interfaces to use to further propagate the link state information. The method also includes sending over the selected network interface, by the first node, to a third node, based on the first set of forwarding instructions and a status of the plurality of network interfaces, a second control message including the link state information and a second set of forwarding instructions. The second set of forwarding instructions is based on the first set of forwarding instructions and a positional location of the third node within the network.

Link state steering

A method for routing data in a network includes receiving, by a first network node, data to be routed using a first layer protocol to a second network node where the first network node is intermittently connected to the second network node over a link spanning a portion of the network. The first network node determines that the link fails to meet a communications criteria and encapsulates the data using a second layer protocol to produce encapsulated data. The second layer protocol is transparent to the first layer protocol and the encapsulated data includes connectivity instructions to route the encapsulated data to the second network node via a third network node. The second network node and the third network node are in communication across the portion of the network and the first network node is able to transmit the encapsulated data to the third network node.

Seam abstraction in communications networks

A method and apparatus for synchronizing the oscillators onboard satellites of a same network, while minimizing relativistic effects. The method consists of identifying a reference signal having minimal Doppler frequency shifting; adjusting the frequency of an ovenized oscillator to the minimally shifted reference signal, and repeating the process for all satellites of a satellite train having a similar orbital path. Subsequently, the clocks on board the satellites of a same train can be set to a same time, by relaying a clock synchronization protocol between the satellites. The method includes a number of error measurement techniques allowing to further compensate for relativistic effects and make further corrections over time.

Method, apparatus and system for synchronizing a satellite network

A method comprising determining, by a function, that a first satellite lacks processing or communication capabilities; and routing data traffic, by the function, from the first satellite to a second satellite, the second satellite having higher processing or communication capabilities than the first satellite. The processing and communication capabilities of the first and second satellite are directly related to their power availability, which is derived from solar energy means. Another method comprising determining, by a function, that a first satellite cannot provide computing or communication resources; migrating data, by the function, from the first satellite to a second satellite that can provide the computing or communication resources; computing the data, by the computing resources of the second satellite; and transmitting computed data, by the function, from the second satellite to the first satellite.

Task delegation in a satellite network

Methods and apparatuses for the provision of timing for a communication network are disclosed. In particular, timing can be provided as a service to the communication network and the network slices operating thereon. This provision of timing as a service (TaaS) can enable the synchronization of operation of the various network components which in some instances can be physically placed at different locations while providing a desired functionality. According to embodiments, a timing slice is configured to provide the portion of timing resources that are associated with the delivery of timing to a slave device in an environment where multiple network slices are operating.

Method and apparatus for provision of timing for a communication network

A remote radio head (RRH) of a distributed radio access network (RAN) is equipped with a co-located user equipment (UE). The UE can be a chipset integrated into the RRH, which is connected to other parts of the RAN via a fronthaul network. The UE can be used to relay information, such as management information to and/or from the RRH. Timing information obtained by the UE can be provided to the RRH and used as an indication of fronthaul latency. The RRH can then adjust its operation in response to the indication of fronthaul latency.

Remote radio head equipped with user equipment terminal capability

A method of controlling a computing device including a physical battery and at least one group of applications executable on hardware resources of the computing device, each group including one or more applications. The method comprises controlling each group of applications based on a state of a respective virtual battery associated each group of applications, each virtual battery having a respective virtual capacity corresponding to a defined portion of a capacity of the physical battery and a respective virtual battery reserve representing an amount of energy that is available for use by the group of applications associated with the virtual battery.

Battery virtualization

One aspect of the disclosure is directed to a system and method for determining the propagation delay for a signal to traverse an optical fiber between two transceivers. The method is performed by a first network element and includes transmitting a message to a second transceiver over a first optical fiber. The method further includes configuring both network elements such that the first NE receives a reply message from the second NE on the first optical fiber. This reply message includes an indication of the internal time for the second NE to transmit the reply message. Accordingly the one way propagation delay on the first optical fiber can be determined. Another aspect is directed to a system and method for using the determined one way propagation delay to synchronize clocks of the two NEs using a symmetric network synchronizing protocol such as precision timing protocol, and correcting for differences in the one way propagation delays which make up the round trip propagation delay. Some embodiments can do this without stopping the operation of the network while pausing (buffering) data flows while the one way propagation delays are determined.

System and methods for network synchronization

A method for transmitting signaling information, such as cryptographic key synchronization information, over a data path of a network, the data path having an originating end and a terminating end. The method uses in-band signaling to transmit the signaling information from the originating end of the data path to the terminating end of the data path without consuming any bandwidth of the data path. More specifically, the method includes the steps of receiving user data to be transmitted over the data path and encrypting this user data with a cryptographic key, thereby generating cipher data. The method next includes processing the cipher data such that the cipher data includes the signaling information, and mapping the cipher data including the signaling information into a traffic unit for transmission over the data path.

Method and system for transmitting signaling information over a data transport network

In response to a network topology change, a clock root node calculates a new clock path for each affected node by building a clock source topology tree, and identifying from that tree a path to the network node from a clock source of higher or equal stratum relative to that network node. The root node then sends a network message to each node indicating the new path that the node should use. Each node receives the message and compares the new path with the existing path. If the paths are different then the node acquires the new path just received in the message. If the paths are the same then the node does nothing and discards the message.

Protocol for clock distribution and loop resolution

In a method of estimating a bit rate (f) of a digital signal conveyed through a SONET network between an originating node and a terminating node, the digital signal received by the originating node is processed to determine a result of a first function of the signal bit rate (f) and a respective Tx local reference frequency (f) of the originating node. A result of a second function of the Tx local reference frequency (f) and a respective Rx local reference frequency (f) of the terminating node is calculated. Finally, a result of a third function of the respective first and second function results is calculated, to derive an estimate of the signal bit rate (f) relative to the Rx local reference frequency (f).

Digital processing of SONET pointers

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for transmitting an electrical digital signal of arbitrary transmission rate over a data network characterized by a range of allowable transmission rates, where the data network may be synchronous or asynchronous, optical or electrical. A synchronizer is provided for mapping an incoming electrical digital signal into a frame for transmission over the optical network. The line transmission rate of the frame is recovered from the data clock signal of the incoming digital signal, independent of the format and bit-rate of the data network. A desynchronizer is also provided for reverse mapping a data signal, received over the data network, into an electrical digital signal of arbitrary transmission rate.
