Described herein is a method of using organic carboxylic acids having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in preparation of aqueous basecoat materials for the purpose of improving the adhesion of the aqueous basecoat materials to overbaked clearcoat materials. Also described herein is a method for producing a muilticoat paint system, where a basecoat material is applied directly to an overbaked clearcoat film.

Use of low-molecular carboxylic acids in aqueous base coats

Provided herein is a pigmented aqueous basecoat material including an aqueous polyurethane-polyurea dispersion (PD) having polyurethane-polyurea particles present in the dispersion, an average particle size (volume average) of 40 to 2000 nm, and a gel fraction of at least 50 wt %. The polyurethane-polyurea particles, in each case in reacted form, include: at least one polyurethane prepolymer containing isocyanate groups and including anionic groups and/or groups which can be converted into anionic groups, and at least one polyamine comprising two primary amino groups and one or two secondary amino groups. The aqueous basecoat material includes a specific solvent composition. Also provided herein is a method of using basecoat materials including the dispersion (PD) and multicoat paint systems produced using the basecoat materials.

Aqueous base paints containing cross-linked polyurethane binders and a special solvent composition

Provided herein is a cleaning composition including: from 20 to 90% by weight of dimethyl sulfoxide, from 5 to 30% by weight of at least one mineral oil (M), and from 5 to 50% by weight of at least one bipolar organic solvent (L). The ranges of proportions indicated are in each case based on the total weight of the cleaning composition. Also provided herein is a method of cleaning components by employing the cleaning composition, and also the cleaned components themselves.

Cleaning composition

The present invention relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising at least one aqueous dispersion comprising at least one copolymer (CP), said copolymer (CP) being preparable by (i) initially charging an aqueous dispersion of at least one polyurethane, and then (ii) polymerizing a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of the polyurethane from (i), in which (a) a water-soluble initiator is used, (b) the olefinically unsaturated monomers are metered in such that a concentration of 6.0% by weight, based on the total amount of olefinically unsaturated monomers used for polymerization, in the reaction solution is not exceeded over the entire reaction time, and (c) the mixture of the olefinically unsaturated monomers comprises at least one polyolefinically unsaturated monomer and at least one linear hydroxy-functional reaction product (R) having an acid number less than 20 mg KOH/g, the preparation of which involves using at least one compound (v) containing two functional groups (v.a) and an aliphatic or araliphatic hydrocarbyl radical (v.b) which is arranged between the functional groups and has 12 to 70 carbon atoms. The present invention also relates to a method for producing a multicoat paint system using the coating composition, and to the multicoat coating thus produced.

Aqueous coating composition and production of multicoat paint systems using said coating composition

Described is a method for producing a multicoat color and/or effect paint system. A pigmented aqueous basecoat material is used which comprises at least one phosphite of the formula (I): wherein at least one of the radicals Rto Ris selected from the group of aliphatic hydrocarbons. The sum total of the weight percentage fractions of all of the phosphites of structural formula (I) here is 0.1% to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the basecoat material used. Moreover, described are the corresponding basecoat materials, the corresponding multicoat color and/or effect paint system, and the use of the phosphites in pigmented aqueous coating materials. Also described is a method for repairing defects on multicoat color and/or effect paint systems produced with the aid of the above-identified method of the invention.

Method for producing and repairing a multicoat color and/or effect paint system

The invention relates to the use of phosphoric acid and/or of monoesters and/or diesters of phosphoric acid in aqueous basecoat materials for improving adhesion of these coating materials to overbaked clearcoat materials which comprise boron compounds.

Use of phosphoric esters in aqueous basecoats

The present invention relates to a method for producing a multicoat paint system on a metallic substrate, in which a basecoat or a plurality of directly successive basecoats are produced directly on a metallic substrate coated with a cured electrocoat, a clearcoat is produced directly on the one basecoat or the uppermost of the plurality of basecoats, and then the one or more basecoats and the clearcoat are jointly cured, and wherein at least one basecoat material used for production of the basecoats comprises the following components: an aqueous dispersion comprising at least one specific copolymer, a specific linear hydroxy-functional reaction product and a polyurethane resin, the preparation of which involves using at least one compound containing at least one carboxylic acid group and at least one group reactive toward isocyanate groups.

Method for producing a multicoat paint system

The present invention relates to a pigment paste comprising at least one aqueous dispersion comprising at least one copolymer, said copolymer being preparable by (i) initially charging an aqueous dispersion of at least one polyurethane, and then (ii) polymerizing a mixture of olefinically unsaturated monomers in the presence of the polyurethane from (i), in which (a) a water-soluble initiator is used, (b) the olefinically unsaturated monomers are metered in such that a concentration of 6.0% by weight, based on the total amount of olefinically unsaturated monomers used for polymerization, in the reaction solution is not exceeded over the entire reaction time, and (c) the mixture of the olefinically unsaturated monomers comprises at least one polyolefinically unsaturated monomer, and further comprising a pigment, where the weight ratio of pigment to copolymer is at least 1.5. The invention further relates to the use of the copolymer for dispersion of pigments.

Pigment pastes comprising an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer

The present invention also relates to a method for producing a multicoat paint system using the coating composition, and to the multicoat coating thus produced.

Described is a method for producing a multicoat color and/or effect paint system by (1) applying to a substrate a pigmented aqueous basecoat material, (2) forming a polymer film from the coating material applied in stage (1), (3) applying a clearcoat material to the resultant polymer film, and then (4) curing the polymer film together with the clearcoat film. The pigmented aqueous basecoat material comprises at least one alcohol having a structure: wherein R is a Cto Calkyl radical, with the proviso that R is not an n-butyl radical. The at least one alcohol is used in an amount of 0.1% to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the aqueous basecoat material. Additionally, described are the corresponding coating materials and also the use of the alcohols in pigmented aqueous coating materials.

Method for producing a multicoat color and/or effect paint system

Disclosed is a method for producing a multicoat color and/or effect paint system, comprising (1) applying a pigmented aqueous basecoat to a substrate, (2) forming a polymer film from the basecoat applied in stage (1), (3) applying a clearcoat to the polymer film, and then (4) curing the polymer film together with the applied clearcoat to form a clearcoat film. The pigmented aqueous basecoat comprises at least one ester characterized by the following structure: where Ris selected from the group of ethyl and isopropyl and Ris a Cto Cradical. The at least one ester is used here in an amount of 0.1% to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the aqueous basecoat applied in stage (1). The invention further provides the corresponding coating materials and the use of the esters in pigmented aqueous coating materials.
