Provided in the invention are thiosulfate-urea based products (IIa) and/or a polysulfide-urea based products (IIb) and/or a (bi)sulfite-urea based products (IIc) suitable for use in fertilizers and comprising: one or more urea-containing compounds (a), one or more compounds (b), optionally, one or more urease (c1) and/or nitrification (c2) inhibitors that are different from compounds (b), and/or optionally, one or more additives (d) that are different from any of the above compounds, wherein the amount of water (e) in the product (II) is less than about 10 wt %, preferably less than about 5 wt %, wherein compounds (a) are selected from urea (a1) and/or from urea-aldehyde products (a2) and/or from urea-triazone compounds (a3), wherein compounds (b) are selected from thiosulfates (b1) and/or from polysulfides (b2) and/or from (bi)sulfites (b3). An advantage of products of the invention is that only minimal amounts of degradation products of compounds (b) are formed. Products of the invention can be made in various forms and in different ways. All of the materials of the invention are suitable for use in fertilizers and blend well with solid and liquid fertilizers standardly used.

Compositions comprising solid thiosulfates, polysulfides and/or (bi)sulfites and methods for preparing same

Provided in the invention is a stabilized fertilizer composition (I) suitable for use in fertilizers and comprising: Urea (a), One or more compounds (b), One or more urease inhibitors (c1) and/or one or more nitrification inhibitors (c2), optionally provided in one or more carriers (d), said compounds (c) being different from compounds (b), Optionally one or more additives (e) different from any of the above, and Water (f) in an amount less than about 10 wt % and preferably less than about 5 wt %; wherein compounds (b) are selected from thiosulfates (b1) and/or from polysulfides (b2) and/or from (bi)sulfites (b3); and wherein the ratio of urea (a) to compounds (b) is from 1:99 to 99:1, preferably from 2:98 to 98:2. Products of the invention can be made in various forms and in different ways. All of the materials of the invention are suitable for use in fertilizers and blend well with solid and liquid fertilizers standardly used. They have excellent shelf life and provide good urea-N protection.

Stabilized urea fertilizer compositions and methods for preparing same

The present invention relates to an aqueous liquid fertilizer composition having a 4 wt % to 30 wt % nitrogen content and 8 wt % to 27 wt % sulfur content comprising more than 20 wt % ammonium thiosulfate, calculated as dry matter, and at least 2 wt %, calculated as dry matter, of one other compound selected from the group consisting of a sulfite, bisulfite, urea-triazone compound and zinc sulfate hexahydrate or mixtures thereof, wherein the composition has a salt out temperature of about 0 C or less as measured with the FFF-method. The aqueous liquid fertilizer composition of the present invention can have an amount of sulfur of about 21 wt % or higher, for example 22-26 wt %.

Liquid fertilizer comprising thiosulfate

A stable concentrated solution of a metam salt and a polysulfide, particularly calcium polysulfide, can be used to treat for soil pathogens, including the pathogen responsible for potato early die. Calcium polysulfide alone in sufficient concentration and dosage provides activity against the same pathogen. It is believed that the high concentrations of the compounds, that is, the high concentration of lime sulfur admixed with a metam, results in lower rates of degradation that result from calcareous soil, increased soil adsorption or retention, and improved distribution of metam or methyl isothiocyanate (MITC) in the soil.

Sulfur dioxide scrubbing system and process for producing potassium products

An efficient process for preparation of potassium thiosulfate (KSO) is described. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) and elemental sulfur (S) are converted to potassium polysulfide, which is subsequently oxidized. The process allows using specifically designed process conditions such as mole ratios of potassium hydroxide to sulfur, and temperature, to obtain an optimized formulation of desired polysulfide, and a specifically designed set of conditions such as temperature, pressure, rate and duration of the oxidant during the oxidation conditions, to obtain a relatively high concentration of soluble potassium thiosulfate product with high purity, with relatively low amounts of byproducts. The manufacturing process can either be a batch process or a continuous process utilizing Continuous Stirred Tank Reactors (CSTR). The CSTR process is dependent on several design parameters, including pressure, and temperature optimization to avoid product instability. The resulting potassium thiosulfate is a beneficial fertilizer with high potassium content as a 50% liquid source of potassium.

Oxidation process for producing potassium thiosulfate

The present invention provides a new liquid fertilizer comprised of potassium sulfite and potassium bisulfite, with neutral to slightly alkaline pH, relatively lower salt index and potentially lower phytotoxicity damage compared to other sources of potassium and sulfur products applied in equal amounts as a starter fertilizer. More specifically, the present invention further relates to methods for fertilizing using a composition of potassium sulfite and potassium bisulfite, particularly as a starter fertilizer, in-furrow fertilizer, side dress fertilizer, and for foliar, broadcast, soil injection and fertigation applications. The fertilizer composition is comprised primarily of potassium sulfite and potassium bisulfite (with the fertilizer grade of 0-0-23-8S).

An efficient process for the continuous preparation of calcium thiosulfate (CaSO) from lime sulfur, through oxidation is described. The process involves oxidizing calcium polysulfide intermediate in a series of reactors to produce calcium thiosulfate as a clear liquid in high concentration with minimal byproducts. The process results in the complete destruction of polythionates, permitting the calcium thiosulfate produced to be useful in certain leaching processes for precious metals. The invention further makes it possible to recycle the process water from the leaching process for use as a raw material reactant in the process for calcium thiosulfate production.

Continuous process for preparation of calcium thiosulfate liquid solution

An efficient batch or semi-continuous method of production of relative high concentration, low byproduct-containing, calcium thiosulfate (CaSO) from lime, sulfur or calcium polysulfide, and sulfur dioxide under elevated reaction temperature conditions is described. The product is an emulsion of liquid calcium thiosulfate and solid byproducts. Under the conditions of the art, including the mole ratios of lime to sulfur, the temperature of the reaction process and the sulfur dioxide reaction conditions, including rate and duration, the byproducts are reduced to about 2% by weight.

Process for preparation of calcium thiosulfate liquid solution from lime, sulfur, and sulfur dioxide

An efficient semi-continuous preparation of manganese thiosulfate (MnSO, MnTS) from manganese hydrosulfite and sulfur at elevated temperature is described. Manganese hydrosulfite is prepared from commercial manganese carbonate and sulfur dioxide. The resulting product is an emulation of liquid manganese thiosulfate and solid by-products. A manganese thiosulfate solution is produced according to the invention by use of certain mole ratios of MgCOto sulfur, and certain parameters such as the temperature of the reaction process and the pH conditions, including rate and duration of SOpurging, which causes the by-products to be reduced to less than 2% by weight. The resulting manganese thiosulfate is a pinkish liquid with concentration up to 20%.

Process and apparatus for preparing manganese thiosulfate (MnTS) solution

The present invention is directed to the conversion of gas streams comprising ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, and water in the form of liquids or gases that are generated by petroleum refineries and coke ovens to beneficiary agriculture products, by forming ammonium sulfide and then converting the ammonium sulfide, using sulfuric acid, to pure ammonium sulfate.

In one aspect, ozone is quenched from a water stream, such as a drinking water or wastewater stream being treated with ozone, by contacting the stream with magnesium thiosulfate. In another aspect, a method of scrubbing ozone from a gaseous stream comprises contacting the gaseous stream with magnesium thiosulfate. In an alternative embodiment, chlorine is quenched from a water stream by contacting the stream with magnesium thiosulfate or potassium thiosulfate. In yet another aspect, a method of scrubbing chlorine from a gaseous stream comprises contacting the stream with magnesium thiosulfate or potassium thiosulfate. In another embodiment, a thiosulfate, such as magnesium thiosulfate, calcium thiosulfate, potassium thiosulfate, or sodium thiosulfate, is provided on an air filter for scrubbing ozone or chlorine from gaseous streams.

Use of urease-inhibiting amounts of calcium polysulfide, potassium polysulfide, calcium thiosulfate, magnesium thiosulfate, and blends thereof, in combination with urea-containing fertilizer to significantly reduce potential losses of nitrogen due to ammonia volatilization.

An efficient process for the preparation of magnesium thiosulfate involves reaction of magnesium hydrosulfite and sulfur at elevated temperature. Magnesium hydrosulfite can be prepared from commercial magnesium oxide and sulfur. Sulfur dioxide can be used to maintain pH. The resulting product is an emulsion of liquid magnesium thiosulfate and solid byproducts. Under controlled conditions, including mole ratios of MgO to sulfur, temperature of the reaction process, and pH, as well as rate and duration of SOpurging, production of byproducts can be reduced to less than about 2% by weight. The magnesium thiosulfate solution can be prepared with concentrations of at least about 25%, preferably at least about 30%.
