A client device for decrypting and decoding media assets through a secure data path. The client device includes a host core and global memory in a common execution environment and a secure core and restricted memory in a secure execution environment. The secure core generates a license challenge only in the context of the secure execution environment and processes a license challenge response that includes a media content decryption key only in the context of the secure execution environment. The secure core decrypts a protected media asset using the media content decryption key only in the context of the secure execution environment such that the decryption key and decrypted media asset will not be in global memory thereby protecting the media asset from unauthorized access.

Decrypting and decoding media assets through a secure data path

Prior to customer use of a device, communication with the device is allowed via multiple pins of an external interface of the device. One or more pins of the multiple pins via which communication with the device is to be prevented during customer use of the device are identified. The one or more pins are monitored, and a remedial action is taken if particular activity is detected on the one or more pins. Various different remedial actions can be taken, such as resetting or disabling the device.

Preventing access to a device from an external interface

A method and apparatus is provided for the conversion of non-interlaced image data to interlaced image data while reducing flicker effects and simultaneously scaling the image data. A programmable discrete time oscillator (DTO) dynamically determines coefficients that are used in reducing flicker and vertical and horizontal scaling. The two functions are integrated which allow the flicker filter coefficient generated by the DTO to dynamically be modified and take into account desired vertical scaling. A similar DTO is provided to separately perform horizontal scaling using the dynamic coefficients.

A golf ranging system is provided where a golfer positions a ranging unit at a ball position, indicates which hole is being played and the ranging unit reports the distance to the pin for that hole and/or the distance from the tee for that hole. The ranging signal is a direct sequence spread-spectrum signal and the ranging is repeated many times and an average taken, to improve the accuracy of the distance measurement. Optionally, the ranging system could operate over multiple frequencies to avoid interference. The multiple frequencies are scanned until an interference-free channel is found, or measurements are made at several frequencies and averaged. The pin unit might be housed just beyond the pin and include an offset to the pin. The offset can be set by simply sending an offset signal from a standard ranging unit, or a specially configured course management unit, held at the pin or manually entered via a serial port.
