Polynucleotides that comprise regulatory regions of the yeast alcohol oxidase 1 promoter are provided. Isolated polynucleotides, recombinant polynucleotides, vectors, expression cassettes and transformed cells containing the regulatory regions are disclosed. Proteins produced by the transformed cells are also provided.

Alcohol oxidase 1 regulatory nucleotide sequences for heterologous gene expression in yeast

A novel hydrothermal gel process for preparing silicalite particles suitable for use in composite membranes for pervaporation processes is disclosed. A novel process for preparing a silicon-silicalite composite membrane is also disclosed. The novel hydrothermal gel process produces silicalite particles having a diameter from about 0.1 micrometers to about 0.2 micrometers in high yield.

Hydrothermal gel process for preparation of silicalite particles and process for preparation of composite membrane

A novel process for the regeneration of PTMSP membranes is disclosed. The regeneration process includes washing a fouled PTMSP membrane with a solution containing at least about 50% butanol in water for a time sufficient to increase the flux and/or selectivity of the membrane. This regeneration process with a butanol containing solution significantly improves both the flux and selectivity of the PTMSP membrane and can regenerate the flux of the PTMSP membrane to the level of a previously unused membrane.

Poly (1-trimethysilyl-1-propyne) membrane regeneration process

A method and apparatus are disclosed for liquefaction of starch derived from cereal grain. A single-screw extruder is utilized to gelatinize a starch substrate providing significant advantage over prior art jet steam cookers. Liquefaction of the gelatinized starch substrate is completed by post-extrusion bioreaction of the starch with a static-mixer reactor. An alpha-amylase enzyme is utilized to facilitate the liquefaction process. The Liquefacted starch substrate is heated after bioreaction to achieve complete digestion of remaining starch inclusions. Liquefacted starch substrates utilizing the disclosed process significantly reduce the amount of energy required in the conversion of starch to fermentable sugars in the production of ethanol.

Method for liquefaction of cereal grain starch substrate and apparatus

Silicalite, silicalite filled polymer membrane, and process for the selective adsorption of acetone and butanol from aqueous solutions thereof. The silicalite, silicalite filled polymer membrane, and process are particularly suited to the removal of acetone and butanol from Clostridium acetobutylicum fermentation media in that the membrane is not fouled by the fermentation media and may be used without removing the cells from the fermentation media. The silicalite and silicalite filled polymer membrane show excellent selectivity to the adsorption of acetone and butanol relative to the ethanol, acetic acid, and butyric acid components of the fermentation media.
