A recoil device is provided for a gun having a barrel with a breech. The device includes a breech nut, a brake assembly, a pneumatic spring and a counter-recoil buffer. The breech nut has first and second adjacent sides. The brake assembly includes a brake cylinder that mounts to the breech nut on the first side. The pneumatic spring mounts to the breech nut on the second side. The counter-recoil buffer attaches to the pneumatic spring. The brake cylinder and the pneumatic spring internally push fluids for recoil absorption and return in response to firing the gun.

Gun mount for ground attack aircraft

A retrofit kit for exhausting gases is provided for removing combustion products from a gun turret. In some embodiments, the combustion products are toxic gases that include ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and carbon monoxide. The retrofit kit includes a fan and an EMI filter. The fan and the EMI filter are attached to the gun turret with one or more seals that provide both environmental and EMI/RFI protection. In operation, the fan is activated in response to the firing of the gun, and is powered using the power supply provided to the gun turret. In some embodiments, the fan operates for a predetermined time interval after the last operation of the gun.

Gas extraction system retrofit kit for gun weapon system

An ammunition elevator device is provided for raising and lowering ammunition. The device includes a housing, a crank assembly, a pawl mechanism, and a transfer linkage. The housing has a chamber flanked by first and second flanges. The assembly includes a crank axle, first and second sprockets mounted to the axle for elevating the ammunition, and a ratchet gear mounted to the axle adjacent to the first flange. The pawl mechanism includes a pawl, a toggle and a pin spreader. The transfer linkage has a rotatable bar pivotably connected to the second flange, a rod that radially shifts relative to the crank axle in response to the sprockets, and a pair of rotatable joints. The ratchet gear connects to the axle adjacent the first flange, wherein the gear cyclically pivots the pawl for raising the toggle.

Bi-directional ammunition lifter

A differential variable reluctance transducer (DVRT) is provided to measure a translation parameter, such as acceleration and/or deceleration of a test projectile. The DVRT, contained in a canister of the projectile, includes a cylindrical housing and an electronics module. The housing defines a cavity containing insulation and a bobbin around which a wire coil is wrapped. The housing has an attachment end and a distal end that faces the acceleration indicator. The bobbin is disposed substantially collinear to the housing. The wire coil is helically disposed around the bobbin. The insulation fills the remainder of the cavity. The electronics module receives electric current from the wire coil and connects to a data recorder.

Transducer for measuring dynamic translation by differential variable reluctance

A mission responsive ordnance includes projectiles arranged in a bundled configuration that defines a substantially solid structure with each of the projectiles forming a geometric portion thereof. In a unitary mode of operation, the bundled configuration is maintained to define an integral structural element that bears loads generated when the bundled configuration strikes and penetrates a target. In a sub-divided mode of operation, the projectiles are un-bundled before a target is struck so that the projectiles are released into a surrounding environment.

Mission responsive ordnance

A mission responsive ordnance of the present invention arranges a plurality of projectiles in a bundled configuration. The bundled configuration is defined by the projectiles and a bundling means which, together, form a combination that bears loads generated when the bundled configuration strikes and penetrates a target. Unbundling means, coupled to the bundling means, can be operated to selectively render the bundling means inoperative before the target is struck so that one or more of the projectiles are released from their bundled configuration.

An adjustable sight assembly for attachment to a firearm is provided. A base with a recessed portion has a plate that loosely fits within the recessed portion. A windage adjustment assembly cooperating with the base and a first end of the plate i) effects side-to-side movement of the plate within the recessed portion of the base, and ii) defines a pivotal coupling of the plate to the base at the first end thereof. A second end of the plate moves along an arc when the plate is pivoted about the first end thereof. An elevation adjustment assembly cooperating with the base and the second end of the plate effects elevation of the plate's second end. A sight is pivotally coupled to the plate such that the sight can lie against the plate when not in use and can be rotated approximately 90&deg; to extend vertically from the plate when in use.

Compact and self-contained adjustable sight assembly

A launcher training system includes a housing shaped to resemble a projectile launcher. A hollowed-out portion of the housing defines a boresight axis. An optical sight is coupled to the housing such that the boresight axis and the optical sight's line-of-sight are fixed in relation to one another. The optical sight further defines a sight field-of-view (FOV) with a first reticle appearing therein. An imaging means in the hollowed-out portion of the housing generates an image in an image FOV thereof. Video signal transmitter are provided to transmit signals indicative of the image over the air waves. A remotely-located receiver station is provided to reproduce the image with a second reticle being overlaid thereon. The imaging means are adjustably positioned such that the image FOV is sighted along the boresight axis and such that the second reticle overlaid on the reproduced image appears at the same position as the first reticle in the sight FOV.

Launcher training system

A control knob assembly is disclosed that may be generally used for the quick zeroing adjustment of a dial thereof. A control knob assembly includes a housing with a shaft rotatably supported therein. A ring is coupled to the shaft in such a way that rotation of the ring causes rotation of the shaft. The ring has a plurality of holes distributed therearound and extending longitudinally therethrough from a first side thereof to a second side thereof. A knob is disposed about the shaft adjacent the first side of the ring. The knob is rotatable about the shaft and slidable therealong. A spring is coupled between the knob and ring for biasing the knob towards the ring. A pin extends from the knob to engage one of the holes at the first side of the ring when the spring is free to bias the knob towards the ring. A spring-loaded detent mechanism mounted in the housing engages one of the holes from the second side of the ring. The detent mechanism permits rotation of the ring relative to the housing when the spring is free to bias the knob towards the ring. However, the detent mechanism inhibits rotation of the ring relative to the housing when the spring's bias is overcome by a pulling force that causes the pin to disengage from one of the holes at the first side of the ring.

Quick zeroing knob assembly

A resettable trigger mechanism has an activating rod with a first portion slidably mounted in a housing and a second portion extending from the housing. The activating rod has a notch formed in its first portion. A trigger is coupled to the activating rod's second portion. A first spring coupled between the activating rod and housing biases the second portion towards the housing. A reset rod has a first section slidably mounted in the housing and a second section extending from the housing. The reset rod has a cutout portion formed in its first section for slidingly receiving therethrough the first portion of the activating rod. A second spring is coupled between the reset rod and housing for biasing the second section away from the housing. When the trigger is activated, the activating rod is pulled from the housing to align its notch with the cutout portion of the reset rod so that the reset rod can move under the force of the second spring until the reset rod's cutout portion engages the notch. When the trigger is to be reset, the reset rod is pushed towards the housing to disengage the cutout portion from the notch so that the activating rod is free to move under the force of the first spring thereby allowing the trigger to return to its ready-to-fire position.

Resettable apparatus for use with trigger mechanism

A switching assembly that operatively cooperates with the triggering mechanism of a firearm, such as a rocket launcher, is disclosed. The switching assembly allows for an adjustable trigger linear travel of about 0.4&Prime; within an accuracy of 0.01 inches, while at the same time prevents any over-travel of the switch activator from damaging a depressible switch that is operatively interconnected to firing of the rocket from the launcher.

Dual Adjusting override precision switch activator

An optical sight is integrated into a bracket that can support an optical scope. The bracket defines a bore therethrough such that an optical line-of-sight is defined that is parallel to the line-of-sight of the optical scope. A post extends vertically upward into the bore at a forward end of the bracket in a way that the post's outboard end can be selectively positioned in the bore along a vertical line extending through the bore. A plate with a viewing aperture formed therethrough is mounted across the bore at an aft end of the bracket in a way that the viewing aperture can be selectively positioned along a horizontal line that is perpendicular to the vertical line defined by the post.

Bracket-integrated back-up optical sight

A bayonet lug clamp has a housing opened on one end thereof for slidingly engaging the bayonet lug. A plate is mounted in the housing and opposes the bayonet lug as the housing is slid thereon. A screw passes through the housing to threadably engage the plate. Turning of the screw draws the plate against the bayonet lug.

Disclosed is a mount releasably attached to a launcher/spotting rifle assembly. The mount, when released, allows for the barrel of the spotting rifle of the launcher/spotting rifle assembly to be adjusted in a spherical manner, and when tightened, rigidly affixes the barrel to the launcher/spotting rifle assembly, while at the same time provides shock absorbing means which absorbs high stress from the firing shock typically created by the discharge of the launcher/spotting rifle assembly. The shock absorbing means acts to preserve the rigid and accurate attachment of the barrel to the launcher/spotting rifle assembly.

A shoulder-launched multi-purpose assault weapon having a modified spotting rifle with a top-mounted rocket launcher tube is provided. The spotting rifle forms the base structure of the weapon and all weapon controls are located on the rifle. The rifle has several dual-function mechanisms which perform the combined functions of assembly and safing, bolt-locking back and cartridge ejecting, simultaneous adjustment of both open and optical sights, firing, selectively, of both the spotting round and the rocket round. The combination of these dual-firing mechanisms provides a lighter weight, better-balanced and smaller weapon. The reduction in parts count improves reliability and lowers cost. Other improved features include an adjustable spotting rifle barrel used to match the boresight of the rocket tube and an improved locking mechanism. A dual function trigger assembly operated two sears from a single trigger. The primary sear operates a rotating style hammer while the secondary sear operates a plunger-style hammer. The hammers fire, respectively, the spotting rifle and the rocket tube as selected by the gunner.
