Balanced feature display in fluidic sample separation

A method is provided for tuning a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) oscillator comprising an acoustic resonator and a tuning and amplification circuit arranged in a loop. The method comprises determining an initial oscillation frequency of the oscillator, modifying a capacitance of the tuning and amplification circuit according to the initial oscillation frequency, and adjusting a power level of the oscillator according to the modified capacitance.

An apparatus for providing impedance matching between a single-ended circuit and a differential circuit includes first and second capacitors and first and second inductors. The first capacitor is connected between an input/output of the single-ended circuit and a first differential input/output of the differential circuit. The first inductor is connected between the input/output of the single-ended circuit and a second differential input/output of the differential circuit. The second capacitor is connected between the second differential input/output of the differential circuit and ground. The second inductor is connected between the first differential input/output of the differential circuit and the second differential input/output of the differential circuit.

A high value resistor of the present invention has an active layer deposited over a semi-insulating substrate. Channel etch regions are defined within the active layer. Gate metal is deposited over each channel etch region. Ohmic contact material is deposited at opposing ends of the active layer to define connection regions. A second metal is deposited over the connection regions to form input/output pads. This resistor pattern presents significant increase in resistance in a given area without any additional processing or process steps.

Systems and methods of detecting wireless channel status from acoustic discrimination of spectral content are described. In one aspect, a wireless system includes a spectrum analyzer, a detector, and a controller. The spectrum analyzer is operable to acoustically discriminate spectral content of an input electrical signal in multiple discrete frequency channels. The detector is operable to determine respective statuses of the frequency channels from the acoustically discriminated spectral content. The controller is operable to select one of the frequency channels based on the determined statuses of the frequency channels.

A first and a second resonator are fabricated monolithically adjacent to one another. The first resonator is the reference resonator. The resonant frequency of the second resonator is offset by a difference frequency Fo from the first resonator. Each resonator is included within an oscillator. A mixer receives the output of both oscillators. A low pass filter receives the mixer output and generates a clock signal whose frequency is equal to the difference frequency Fo.

An apparatus and method for adapting a power amplifier to a variable load includes comparing the actual output power to the expected output power, modifying a drive signal to the power amplifier, measuring the value of at least one electrical parameter, determining the difference between the measured value and a predetermined value, and periodically adjusting the drive signal according to the difference. The parameters modified include, but are not limited to, the power delivered to the input of the power amplifier, the DC power supply voltage to any stage of the power amplifier, and the current setting bias values.

An acoustic power transformer includes: an input port adapted to receive an input signal; a transmitting acoustic transducer coupled to the input port and adapted to transmit an acoustic wave in response to the input signal received at the input port; a receiving acoustic transducer adapted to receive the acoustic wave and in response thereto to produce an output signal; an output port adapted to output the output signal; and an acoustic medium disposed in an acoustic wave propagation path between the transmitting acoustic transducer and the receiving acoustic transducer. An input-matching network including an acoustic resonator providing a virtual impedance to match impedance between a first component and second component. As an example, the first component may be an antenna and the second component may be an amplifier. The acoustic resonator provides a virtual impedance to match impedance between the antenna and the amplifier. The acoustic resonator may be, for example, a film bulk acoustic (fbar) resonator or a surface acoustic wave (saw) resonator.

Resonator matching network

Variable-frequency oscillators incorporating thin-film bulk acoustic resonators (FBARs) are described. In one aspect, a variable-frequency oscillator includes a first oscillator circuit and a second oscillator circuit. The first oscillator circuit includes a first film bulk acoustic resonator that has a first resonant frequency. The second oscillator circuit is coupled to the first oscillator circuit and includes a second FBAR that has a second resonant frequency different from the first resonant frequency. At least one current source is coupled to the first and second oscillator circuits and is operable to supply a total current. A bias circuit is operable to apply to the first and second oscillator circuits respective biases that control apportionment of the total current to the first and second oscillators.

A method and circuit matches a device to n filters, wherein each filter is a SAW filter, BAW filter, or FBAR filter. The method and system: (a) provide an inductor or transmission line connected between a common terminal and ground; (b) provide a plurality of capacitance values (C, C, . . . , C) each corresponding to one of the n filters; and (c) for each of the n filters, directly connect a first terminal of the filter to either: (1) the common terminal, or (2) a first terminal of a corresponding capacitor having the correspondence capacitance value calculated in step (b), where a second terminal of the corresponding capacitor is directly connected to the common terminal.
