A fault-tolerant monitoring apparatus is arranged to monitor physical performance properties of a plurality of networked computing elements, each element including a processing unit and individual memory. The monitoring apparatus comprises a plurality of measurer apparatuses, each arranged to measure the physical performance properties of a single computing element, the physical performance properties being stored as local information in the individual memory of the computing element in which the measurement is made; and one or more collector apparatuses arranged to control collection of remote information representing physical performance properties from individual memory in a plurality of the computing elements; and storage of the remote physical performance information as replicate information in the individual memory of another computing element; wherein the remote physical performance information is collected using third party access.

Fault-tolerant monitoring apparatus, method and system

A method of testing implementation parameters of a computer program in a distributed environment, the method comprising; testing of alternative implementation parameters in parallel in the distributed environment, and providing a time-out mechanism that aborts testing processes when one of the following abort conditions is satisfied: a time allowed for testing has expired; and testing processes for a predefined number of alternative implementations are complete; wherein the time-out mechanism includes a hardware interface, which is arranged to cause a hardware supported abort.

Testing implementation parameters of a computer program in a distributed environment

A method of job scheduling in a computing environment, comprising collecting historical job data related to job submissions received from a plurality of users, the historical job data comprising: resource request data indicative of resources requested by the user for executing a job, and resource usage data indicative of actual resources used to execute the job; calculating a believability score for each of the plurality of users based on a comparison between the job resource request data and the resource usage data related to job submissions received from the user, the believability score indicating a degree to which the user overestimates resources required to execute jobs; receiving a new job submission from a user, specifying a new job that is to be executed and resources requested by the user for executing the new job; and scheduling the new job for execution based on the believability score for the user.

Job scheduling based on historical job data

A remote data memory access method for use in a computer system having a plurality of nodes, each node using a respective memory and remote data memory access between nodes being performed by transferring user data from the memory used by one node to the memory used by another node, the method comprising: maintaining memory correctness information of the user data at a subunit level; selecting subunits of user data for transfer in dependence upon memory correctness information of each subunit; and selectively transferring the subunits so selected. The method preferably involves transferring the memory correctness information of at least the selected subunits of user data, in addition to the selected subunits of user data. The memory correctness information may be compressed prior to transfer.
