Various embodiments that pertain to a loop antenna are described. The loop antenna can be a single loop antenna that switches between a first phase and a second phase. While operating at different phases, the loop antenna can function at the same frequency. The loop antenna can observe a response to the frequency at the first phase and the frequency at the second phase. This can provide a wider range of information over operation in a single phase.

Various embodiments are described that relate to a detector. The detector can include a loop functioning at a high frequency that emits a magnetic field. The magnetic field can be retrieved and a comparison can be made between the emitted magnetic field and the retrieved magnetic field. If there is substantially little difference between the emitted and retrieved field, then a determination can be that no object is present. Conversely, if there is a substantial difference between the emitted and retrieved field, then the determination can be that an object is present and thus the object is detected. If the object is present, the returned magnetic field can be further analyzed to determine the type of object that is detected.

Detector

Various embodiments are described that relate to a loop with a constant phase. The loop can function as an antenna and be used in object detection. A current source can be used to power the loop such that the loop produces a magnetic field and electric field. The magnetic field can be powerful enough to detect a dielectric while the electric field is so small that it does not interfere with nearby communication equipment. Thus, detection can occur without disruption of other important devices.

Constant phase

Various embodiments are described that relate to a loop with a constant phase. The loop can function as an antenna and be used in object detection. A current source can be used to power the loop such that the loop produces a magnetic field and an electric field. The magnetic field can be powerful enough to detect a dielectric while the electric field is so small that it does not interfere with nearby communication equipment. Thus, detection can occur without disruption of other important devices.

The present invention provides a microstrip collinear antenna having cable connector assembly means and a collinear microstrip printed circuit board means. The cable connector assembly means responds to a radio signal, for providing a cable connector assembly radio signal. The collinear microstrip printed circuit board means responds to the cable connector assembly radio signal, for providing a collinear microstrip printed circuit board radio signal. The microstrip line collinear antenna is constructed with a number of one half .lambda. printed circuit board elements on both sides of a double-sided board. These one half .lambda. sections are the radiators. On the other side of the board opposite each radiator is a respective section of corresponding microstrip transmission lines to provide radio frequency power to each radiating element. The microstrip line collinear antenna has the following advantages over the prior art antennas: it achieves shorter length due to close physical spacing of radiators, it maintains consistent pattern and impedance performance across the operating frequency range, it allows for accurate and consistent manufacturing through the use of advanced printed circuit board materials, allows for center feed design to achieve high-gain broadband operation, and it allows cost reduction with printed circuit board materials.

A vehicular multi-band antenna is adapted to receive signals in the AM/FM bands and to receive and transmit signals in a significantly higher frequency band such as that used for cellular telephone. The antenna is provided with a base section fixedly mounted on the vehicle and a removable antenna mast section removably received in the base section.

Connector assembly for fixed triband antenna

A retractable motorized multi-band antenna is adapted to receive signals in the AM/FM bands and to receive and transmit signals in a significantly higher frequency band such as that used for cellular telephone. In order to transfer the coaxial input signal to an output coaxial connector, a slip ring connector is provided. The slip ring connector is impedance matched to the antenna to create low VSWR at RF frequencies.

Retractable motorized multiband antenna

A multi-band antenna is adapted to receive signals in the AM/FM bands and to receive and transmit signals in a significantly higher frequency band such as that used for cellular telephone. An AM/FM band antenna is formed of a tubular rod, and a higher frequency band antenna is formed using a centerfed coaxial dipole mounted on top of and coaxially with the AM/FM antenna. The dipole is fed by a coaxial rod attached to a coaxial cable extending through the AM/FM antenna. A cylindrical choke is disposed about the coaxial rod and is spaced a predetermined distance from the dipole antenna to reduce coupling between the AM/FM antenna and the high-frequency antenna. The choke functions to position the input impedance of the high-frequency antenna at the base of the choke in a manner so that a short matching transformer may be used at the base of the choke for connection to the coaxial cable. In matching the antenna in this manner at the base of the choke, the best possible VSWR characteristics of the antenna are preserved and the radiation pattern of the antenna's main lobe extends horizontally along a horizontal axis.
