A rotary mechanical system includes an electric machine, such as an electric motor, and a housing at least partially housing one or more components of the electric machine. The housing defines an electrical cavity and a coolant cavity. The electrical cavity houses one or more electrical components, such as a stator, of the electric machine. The coolant cavity is configured to receive a liquid coolant, such as ethylene glycol and water, from a liquid coolant system. The housing is configured to seal a two-phase refrigerant within the electrical cavity to transfer heat from the one or more electrical components to a wall of the electrical cavity and from the wall of the electrical cavity to the liquid coolant.

Electric machine cooling

An example system includes a housing configured to house a portion of an electric machine and a heat transfer material, the heat transfer material is configured to contact a conductor of the portion of the electric machine and to remove heat from the conductor and transfer heat to the housing. The system includes a coolant configured to remove heat from the housing. An inner surface of the housing comprises a plurality of structures configured to increase an inner surface area of the housing, wherein the plurality of structures are configured to contact the heat transfer material.

The disclosed technology generally relates to a compressor housing that includes a main housing portion and an end housing portion. The main housing portion is configured to house a compressor motor and an inlet housing. The inlet housing is configured to receive vapor refrigerant downstream of the compressor motor. The main housing portion and the end housing portion are configured to interface at a mating surface of the respective housing portions and define a volume. The end housing portion includes a sensor cavity extending into the volume toward an opening of the inlet housing.

The disclosed technology generally relates to a compressor housing, comprising a first portion configured to house a compressor motor of a centrifugal compressor, a second portion configured to house an inlet housing of the centrifugal compressor, where the inlet housing is configured to receive refrigerant into an impeller assembly of the centrifugal compressor, and at least one refrigerant accumulator upstream of the second portion, the at least one refrigerant accumulator configured to accumulate liquid refrigerant.

A vapor cycle compressor includes a motor section and a compression section operatively engaged with the motor section. A refrigerant path is in the motor section and in the compression section. The refrigerant path includes: a compression refrigerant path, for a single phase compression refrigerant, in the compression section; an inner rotor shaft refrigerant path, for a single phase inner rotor shaft refrigerant, in the compression section and in the motor section; and a stator refrigerant path, for a two phase stator refrigerant, in the motor section.
