Systems and methods of managing problem determination (PD) data provide for obtaining PD data from a plurality of data sources via an input/output (I/O) interface of a data management device and storing the PD data to a memory of the data management device. In addition, an automated diagnostic analysis of the PD data may be conducted on the data management device. An automated discovery manager may provide the ability to find new sources of PD data and to either reconfigure remote systems to send data to the data management device or to automatically retrieve data from remote systems on a configurable schedule. Dynamically updateable database of symptom information can also be used, wherein the data management device may include a dynamically updateable set of analysis modules with which to conduct analysis on the PD data.

The multi-personality event includes complete details contained in each event of the plurality of events serially appended to an initial multi-personality event formed by two of the plurality of events. Problem determination knowledge is provided by an extraction tool that extracts tag information recorded in identified problem tracking tools, where the tags relate to problem knowledge. The extracted tag information is examined to produce a catalog of symptom definitions that can be utilized by tools such as problem submission, logging and/or analysis tools.

Illustrative embodiments provide a computer implemented method for managing log information. The method comprising, responsive to receiving a request to discover log information, and invoking a set discovery agents to discover the log information for logs located on a set of managed nodes. The method further identifies the log information on the set of managed nodes using the set of discovery agents and stores the log information in a repository knowledge base containing log information.

A method to correlate and consolidate a plurality of events includes consolidating each of the plurality of events to form a multi-personality event. Each event may be emitted from a respective one of a plurality of components forming an event producer in response to an incident affecting the event producer. The method also includes providing the multi-personality event to an event consumer.
