The disclosed invention provides system and method for whole word conversion of text in an image. The system and method may convert the text in the image into Unicode strings. The system and method utilizes comparable features of word segments that are extracted from the text in the image. The comparable features of the word segments are created by mirroring comparable features of word templates stored in a conversion database. Word templates in the database are filtered by comparing the comparable features of the word segments with comparable features of the word templates in the database. The word segments are correlated to matching word candidates. Word confusion networks are constructed with the matching word candidates, and the word confusion networks are evaluated to output matching words for the word segments. This system and method reduce the search space in the database improving search efficiency.

System and method for whole word conversion of text in image

The approach of the present invention is called optical word recognition (OWR). The present invention advantageously uses techniques to search for arbitrary textual information contained in imaged documents. The result is a significant advance in high-speed search for textual information within imaged documents. The optical apparatus includes a generating unit for synthetically generating textual patterns as signal templates. The optical apparatus has a compensating unit for compensating, if necessary, for visual differences between the synthetically generated textual patterns and images being compared against the synthetically generated images. The optical apparatus has a comparing unit for comparing compensated images against images in a database.

Image page search for arbitrary textual information

Disclosed is a method and apparatus in which one or more data streams are sent to a computer and the data streams are sorted using a rule base into streams representative of events. The incoming data streams can be sent by hunter agents which search for specified types of data and forward the data to the computer. The incoming data stream can also be sent by a gatherer agent. The incoming data stream can also be incoming message traffic such as e-mail and other types of message traffic data. The incoming message traffic data is then sorted into event streams and can be displayed as event streams on a time line. Actions can be taken based upon specified events. Thus, events from disjointed sources can be sorted and displayed in a unified manner in which a user can readily and quickly know which events have occurred for a particular issue, such as a forest fire, hospital patient, etc.
