Adhesives suitable for use with low surface energy materials are described. The adhesive contain an acrylic copolymer, a high glass transition temperature tackifier and a low glass transition temperature tackifier. The acrylic copolymer is the reaction product of a first alkyl(meth)acrylate having at least 5 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, a second alkyl(meth)acrylate having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, and a vinyl carboxylic acid. Both tackifiers have a Tg greater than the Tg of the acrylic copolymer. The high glass transition temperature tackifier has a Tg of at least 20&#xb0; C. and the low glass transition temperature tackifier has a Tg of less than 0&#xb0; C.

The invention provides normally tacky and pressure-sensitive adhesive compositions comprising a polymer having an inherent viscosity greater than 0.2 and having in its backbone at least a major portion by weight of polymerized monomeric acrylic or methacrylic acid ester of a non-tertiary alcohol and, having attached to the backbone, polymeric moieties having a weight average molecular weight of above about 2,000 and a T.sub.g of above about 20.degree. Pressure-sensitive adhesives are prepared by the simultaneous polymerization of minor amounts of at least one alkenyl azlactone monomer and at least one arylic-functional carboxylic acid monomer, or precursors thereof, with a major amount of at least one acrylic monomer.
