100% solids polyurethanes having improved physical properties in terms of Shore hardness, tear strength, elongation at break and/or tensile strength are realized through the introduction of 100% solids hydroxyl-functional acrylics in combination with the hydroxyl-functional polyether and 100% solids isocyanate-functional compounds. When an aromatic isocyanate is used, the isocyanate-reactive component includes from 5 to 70% by weight of a hydroxyl-functional polyether having a weight average molecular weight ranging from 180 to 6,500 g/mol, and 30 to 95% by weight of a hydroxyl-functional acrylic. When an aliphatic isocyanate is used, the isocyanate-reactive component includes from 40 to 70% by weight of a hydroxyl-functional polyether having a weight average molecular weight ranging from 180 to 6,500 g/mol, and 30 to 60% by weight of a hydroxyl-functional acrylic.

Method of forming an encapsulated fertilizer that includes the step of providing a core particle. The core particle includes a fertilizer and has an outer surface. The method further includes the step of applying an isocyanate component directly to the outer surface of the core particle. The isocyanate component has isocyanate functional groups. The method further includes the step of reacting the isocyanate component with ambient moisture to form a layer disposed about the core particle to form the encapsulated fertilizer. The layer includes polyurea linkages and may further include polyurethane linkages.

Method of forming an encapsulated fertilizer

A composite body is provided that includes a rigid polyurethane foam shell and an elastomeric polyurethane layer disposed over the rigid polyurethane foam shell. The rigid polyurethane foam shell defines a cavity within the composite body. The rigid polyurethane foam shell has a closed cell content of at least 70% and comprises the reaction product of a first isocyanate component and a first isocyanate-reactive component in the presence of a blowing agent. The elastomeric polyurethane layer is disposed over the polyurethane foam shell. The elastomeric polyurethane layer comprises the reaction product of a second isocyanate component and a second isocyanate-reactive component. A method of forming the composite body includes the step of molding the rigid polyurethane foam shell, demolding the rigid polyurethane foam shell from the mold, and applying an elastomeric polyurethane composition upon the rigid polyurethane foam shell after demolding to form the elastomeric polyurethane layer.
