An armrest assembly for a chair which can be adjusted in multiple aspects with the use of single actuating mechanism. The adjustment aspects of the preferred embodiment include a vertical adjustment with respect to the chair and a horizontal rotational adjustment. Such an armrest assembly can include an armrest base securable to a chair and having a tubular portion, a hollow armrest support slideably and rotationally disposed about the tubular portion and an armpad attached to the top of the hollow armrest support. A handle to disengage the actuating mechanism is provided.

A mouse pad support is mounted on a keyboard support that has a keyboard support arm attachable to a fixed structure such as the underside of a desk top, and a tiltable keyboard support platform thereon. A mouse pad support arm is coupled to the keyboard support arm via a rotational swivel fitting with a vertical axis for moving the mouse pad arm and mouse pad support table to any position around the keyboard in a circular arc in a horizontal plane. The height of the swivel fitting is adjustably fixed over a range. The mouse pad arm is kept in a horizontal plane because its rotational coupling to the keyboard support arm is made at an angularly fixed part on the keyboard support arm, such as on a parallelogram linkage associated with setting the elevation of the keyboard platform. The keyboard platform tilts relative to the angularly fixed part, whereby mouse position is independent of keyboard platform tilt. The mouse support arm is long enough for the mouse support table to clear the corners of the keyboard platform, but the mouse support table also is adjustably attached to the mouse pad support arm via an off-center rotational joint such that the spacing between the mouse pad and the keyboard can be adjusted by rotating the mouse support table. This off-center joint preferably employs a ball and socket universal joint with a friction adjustment, enabling an adjustable degree of tilt of the mouse pad support table as well.

An offset cantilevered support leg for a height adjustable desk which resists lateral forces is provided. Each support leg is connected to the underside of the desk top at the lateral ends thereof by an L-shaped bracket. A primary support arm provides the cantilevered support for the desk top while a secondary support arm, angularly offset from and generally oriented perpendicularly with respect to the primary support arm, provides support against lateral forces directed against the legs. By orienting each of the respective support arms of the L-shaped bracket with the rear corners of the work surface, the legs provide adequate support against vertical and horizontal loading while maximizing the available space underneath the desk, and thus eliminating the need for a horizontal stretcher between the cantilevered support leg.

An office furniture system of free standing furniture elements which can be linked to each other comprises a modular desk unit and a modular storage unit. The modular storage unit occupies the same floor footprint as a rectangular desk unit. The separate storage unit enhances the storage capacity of an office layout since the mounting of drawers and shelves are not limited by the desk unit configuration. The storage unit has compatible lay-in wiring trays, accepts compatible modular power components and accepts the same privacy partition panels and other accessories as are mounted to the desk units. When the desk unit and the storage unit are linked into an integrated office design, a continuous pathway is provided for the electrical, communication and data wiring required for the office system. Power cables are physically separated from the data and communication wires. Since the vertical space above the wiring trays remains accessible, cabling can be easily routed at any time through the system, enhancing office system expansion and design.

A telescoping leveler can include a housing having one end securable to a support column of an article of furniture and a threaded bore provided in an opposite end, a cylindrical intermediate member threaded on both an outside surface and an inside surface with the threaded outside surface threaded into the threaded bore of the housing, and a leveling glide having an upper threaded shaft portion that can be threaded into the threaded inside surface of the cylindrical intermediate member. The leveling glide can also have a lower foot portion. Additionally, a plurality of telescoping cylindrical intermediate members can be provided between the housing and the leveling glide. Furthermore, a stop means can be provided to prevent the threaded shaft and the intermediate members from being fully removed out of the threaded bore and threaded inside surfaces.

Independently adjustable mouse pad and keyboard support apparatus

A movable support arm positions a surface platform for a keyboard, display monitor, pointing device, wrist support or the like relative to a base structure such as the underside of a desk top. Articulated members between a base member and the platform are coupled by joints having rotational couplings on two mutually perpendicular axes, forming universal joints. The joints have axially facing rotational engagement surfaces that can be splined or otherwise made engageable, and are displaceable toward and away from one another, the latter preferably by a spring coupling that is axially limited in extension. The rotational engagement surfaces resist rotation when engaged. A line such as a cable traverses the joints and normally applies tension via a spring, causing all the joints to lock and to hold the supporting platform at a given position and orientation. A manually operable control is provided to extend the length of the line and disengage all the joints simultaneously, whereupon the support platform can be moved freely to a new position anywhere in a three dimensional range, as well as tilted, etc. The control is released at the new position to again hold the platform in place. The line runs centrally through the joints. A counterbalance spring and line are displaced from the centerline, the cable winding around a horizontal one of the joints to vary tension on the spring for offsetting part of the weight of the support.

A support apparatus has dual, or left and right, palm rests. The apparatus is positionable to support an item like a keyboard in various inclined positions. The dual palm rests are mounted separately on a common carriage that slides in a plane back and forth relative to a front edge of an item on the apparatus. The manner of mounting the palm rests permits each palm rest to swivel about a generally vertical swivel axis and, additionally, move hingeally about a hinge axis that extends in a plane generally perpendicular to the associated swivel axis. The palm rests are connected to sets of torsion springs or the like to normally bias the palm rests about both the swivel axes and the hinge axes for clamping. Likewise, the sliding action of the carriage is preferably normally biased for clamping as well. Overall, the carriage, dual palm rests and biasing cooperatively effect a multiply adjustable clamping action on the from edge of the item. The support apparatus optionally includes a dual side-pad assembly positionable in either left or right use positions, or in a storage position. Each side panel is independently inclinable, and can carry a clip-on wrist rest. The side panels provide surfaces for use, for example, with a cursor positioning device like a mouse or a trackball. For the cursor positioning device, there is also a storage device which is removably attachable to the edges of the support apparatus, for releasably storing the cursor positioning device during non-use.
