A method of routing calls from a mobile unit to a destination location can include registering the mobile unit with a wireless adjunct, wherein the wireless adjunct is in communication with a switching unit and a packet based network and is operable to receive data from the switching unit and place the data, in packetized form, on the packet based network. The method can further include responding to a call setup request from the mobile unit and querying a subscriber database to determine if the mobile unit is a resident or a guest. If the mobile unit is a resident, communications data can be routed from the mobile unit through the switching unit to a first destination location. If the mobile unit is a guest, communications data can be routed from the mobile unit through an RF source to a second destination location.

LAN based wireless communications system

A system, method and apparatus to reduce or eliminate interference in a first network in the event that a failure that occurs in a second network. The method, system and apparatus provide an added level of first network interference protection in a second network environment by removing certain frequencies/channels of the first network from being utilized by the second network. In one embodiment, for example, the frequencies/channels identified by a scanner associated with the second network during the scanning process that are allocated to the first network are removed from the pool of available frequencies/channels that can be utilized by the second network, and such frequencies/channels are stored in a table.

Wireless adjunct to PBX system

A system for preventing interference to a first network by a second network where the first network includes a first cell and one or more cells neighboring the first cell. The system includes a scanner for scanning the first network for identifying information associated with a neighboring cell. The network switching device associated with the first network is in communication with the scanner and receives information including a frequency allocated to the neighboring cell and transmits the information to the scanner. The system further includes a controller in communication with the scanner and a memory device coupled to the controller. The memory device includes a table having frequencies allocated for use by the any one of the neighboring cells and the controller retrieves the allocated frequencies stored in the table and bars the allocated frequencies from being used by the second network.

An apparatus and method for generating a muting signal. The apparatus includes an audio signal detector for remotely receiving an audio signal and a processor in communication with the detector. The processor is configured to compare the received audio signal with a predetermined audio signal generated by a device and generate a muting signal when at least a component of the received audio signal matches the predetermined audio signal.

Apparatuses and methods for recognizing an audio input and muting an audio device

A system and method for controlling operations in a cellular system is disclosed. A serving cell or the mobile telephone switching office (MTSO) determines that a portable wireless device operating in a serving cell needs to be handed off (a 'handoff'). The position of the portable wireless device is determined. The position may be determined based on any of a variety of localization techniques, such as time difference of arrival (TDOA), angle of arrival (AOA), location pattern matching (LPM), global positioning system (GPS), or other localization techniques. A target cell is selected based on the position of the portable wireless device. Generally, the target cell is selected as the cell that is closest to the portable wireless device. Factors such as a position vector and/or a velocity vector may be assessed in selecting the target cell. Based on the target cell that is selected, the MTSO assigns the portable wireless device to the target cell and the transmission is handed off to the new cell.

Location defined control of cellular system

The effects of fading on communication using a mobile telephone is reduced by switching between two or more antennas which are used to provide communication between a base station and a mobile telephone in response to a synchronization signal without arcing. The synchronization signal is generated in accordance with a signal quality measured by the mobile telephone. The synchronization signal is either transmitted back to the base station, whereupon the base station determines whether or not to switch based on the transmitted downlink signal quality, or used by the mobile phone to generate an antenna switching instruction that is transmitted back to the base station, whereupon the base station switches between the antennas in accordance with the instruction. Alternatively, the synchronization signal is generated by the base station without feedback from the mobile telephone.

System and method for improving downlink signal quality in mobile telephone communications systems

Systems and methods are provided for allowing a first wireless unit and a second wireless unit to share a single communication channel including a transmit frequency and a receive frequency. The systems and methods allow for a more spectrally efficient transmission of Push To Talk mode calls over a Time Division Multiple Access system. The systems and methods include assigning the single communication channel to the first wireless unit and the second wireless unit, so that the first wireless unit and the second wireless unit may alternatively transmit on the transmit frequency, and the first wireless unit and the second wireless unit may monitor the receive frequency; receiving a first transmission from the first wireless unit on the transmit frequency; sending a signal to the first wireless unit indicating to the first wireless unit to stop transmitting; sending a signal to the second wireless unit that the second wireless unit can send a second transmission on the transmit frequency; and receiving the second transmission from the second wireless unit on the transmit frequency. The systems include a first wireless unit, a second wireless unit, and a base station. The first wireless unit transmits on a transmit frequency of a communication channel and monitors a receive frequency of the communication channel. The second wireless unit monitors the receive frequency.
