Traction control apparatus and method

A motorized mixer for mixing bone cement for use in attachment of prosthetics and method for using the mixer. The mixer comprises a mixing chamber, a liner in the mixing chamber, an impeller within the liner, a motor for driving the impeller and programmable memory mechanics for regulating the operations of the motor. The liner comprises a basket for receiving vials of bone cement catalyst and a mixing bowl for receiving the bone cement powder. Preferably the two are permanently attached to one another. The mixing bowl is also used for mixing the two components together to produce the bone cement. During mixing the mixing bowl is maintained under a vacuum to withdraw fumes from the bone cement and to prevent gases from being mixed into the bone cement. Once mixing is complete, a U-shaped trap door releases the mixed bone cement from the mixing bowl, through a discharge tube and into a bone cement cartridge. By maintaining the interior of the bone cement cartridge under a vacuum, the withdrawal of the bone cement is simplified.

Automated bone cement mixing apparatus

An impeller for use in a mixer for mixing bone cement having a mixing chamber and means for mixing cement within the chamber that allows the simultaneous exposure of the mixing chamber and the post-cement delivery area to a vacuum source to prevent to prevent air from being folded into the cement during mixing and post-mixing transfer as well as aiding in the ease of cement transfer from the mixing chamber to the post-mixing cement collection area.

A bone cement delivery gun for use in attachment of prosthetics and method of using the delivery gun. The gun comprises a reservoir and a trigger mechanism. The reservoir comprises a plunger at a first end of the reservoir and a screw mount fitting at a second end of the reservoir. The trigger mechanism comprises a first position wherein gas, from a compressed gas source, is prevented from reaching the plunger and a second position wherein compressed gas is conveyed from the compressed gas source to the plunger to thereby move the plunger in a direction toward the screw mount fitting.

Bone cement delivery gun

An apparatus for fusibly bonding a powder coating material to a metal article includes a holding device for releasably supporting the article, a depositing device for controllably placing the powder coating material in a band onto a surface of the article, and a laser beam for controllably liquifying a portion of the band of powder and juxtaposed surface while minimizing heat transmission into the article and allowing rapid hardening of the portion of the band after removal of the laser beam to provide a surface layer having properties based substantially solely on the coating material and a relatively thin, strong region of interstitial bond between the surface layer and the article having properties based upon both the coating material and the article. An exemplary engine valve with a relatively fine metallurgical surface structure for increased hardness is disclosed.

Apparatus for fusibly bonding a coating material to a metal article

An engine valve has a valve body, a valve head, an annular metallic valve seat layer fusibly bonded to the valve head that has a relatively fine crystalline structure, and a thinner region of interstitial bond between the valve head and the valve seat layer than heretofore known.

A method for fusibly bonding a coating material to a metal article includes depositing such coating material in solid form on a surface of the article, substantially simultaneously thermally liquifying the coating material and the surface of the article by focusing a relatively high power continuous wave laser beam thereon, and removing the laser beam therefrom to allow cooling and hardening thereof so as to provide a solidified surface layer with a strong and relatively thin interstitial bond between the layer and the article. An exemplary engine valve with a relatively fine structure of the coating material for increased hardness is disclosed.

Method for fusibly bonding a coating material to a metal article

A method of and means for making metallic bonds to powdered metal parts by brazing techniques is disclosed in which the braze material is heated to brazing temperature by a laser beam. Techniques for insuring a reliable bond without excessive absorption of braze material by the powdered metal parts are described.
