To evaluate a network's performance in processing communications related to a target transaction, a set of 'reference' communications corresponding to the target transaction are compared to a larger set of communications in the network in a 'production' environment, to identify the occurrence of the target transaction in the production environment. Preferably, the reference communications are recorded in a laboratory environment that models the production environment, or recorded from the production environment during a period of minimal other activities. A variety of filters are used to eliminate communications in the production environment that are apparently unrelated to the target transaction, including filters based on the time-order of communications among the nodes, the size of the packets being communicated, and the content of the communications. If necessary, after eliminating the apparently unrelated communications from consideration, the remaining production communications are compared to the reference communications to identify the most likely production communications corresponding to the reference communications.

A mechanical IOP (intra ocular pressure) monitor includes a cylinder fitted with an ocular plate attached to the cylinder interior. An alarm system described herein can be used in commercial, public, or governmental buildings and can be activated by any individual when an intruder poses imminent threat; can contain a portable, removable, self-defense mechanism; can notify everyone within the building of the threat; records surveillance video; and can immediately notify police of an intruder posing serious threat to the public. There remains a vital need in public, commercial, residential and governmental buildings for a robust intruder alarm system that protects the public, warns other patrons, notifies the police, and records crime scene information. The embodiments disclosed herein attempt to provide a method and apparatus for protecting people in the presence of a threatening intruder.

The twirling mechanism having a handle extending from a bottom portion thereof and having a mechanism to permit rotating of the handle with respect to the fabric-article, such that the fabric article is capable of twirling around the twirling mechanism. A system/method searches a traffic stream for a sequence of 'matching' packets that exhibit a high degree of correlation or similarity to a sequence of 'reference' packets. The correlation between matching and reference packets is based on a degree of correspondence between individual packets, as well as the sequence-order of the corresponding packets. A variation of the Needleman-Wunsch algorithm is preferably used to select corresponding packets in the traffic stream that provide a sequence-order that best matches the sequence-order of the reference packets, based on a measure of the correspondence for each match, and a penalty associated with each non-match. The algorithm is further modified to reduce the required search-space for finding corresponding packets in the traffic stream.

A method and apparatus for surgical correction of malformations of digits of a foot. Part of the joint is removed to expose bone ends. The bone ends are spaced apart from each other at a distance greater than would be suitable for knitting of said bone ends to each other with bone tissue. Holes are bored in each of the bone ends. An implant, including shafts and a central spacer, is inserted into each of the holes in the bones. This implant consists entirely of absorbable material. The implant is left permanently in place to be completely absorbed as it is replaced by fibrous scar tissue. This tissue forms an effective joint replacement.

A lens reduces eye strain and fatigue due to glare, after images, reflections or other visual noise incident upon an observer of a visual display terminal. The lens includes a light transmitting plastic body having a convex shaped outer surface for deflecting stray angular radiation and a body provided, in combination with, an ultraviolet absorber to block the transmission of ultraviolet radiation, a colored dye to diminish the intensity of any fluorescent light incident upon the lens and to diminish the transmission of either or both green color radiation or yellow color radiation through the lens and a grey dye to reduce the transmission of incident light.

A lens is provided which can be worn, in the form of eyeglasses, for the reduction of visual noise and resulting eye strain for an observer of a visual display terminal. The lens comprises a light transmitting plastic body having convex shaped outer surface away from the eye of the observer and a concave inner surface facing the eye of the observer. The body is provided with, in combination, an ultraviolet absorber for at least substantially blocking the transmission of ultraviolet radiation incident upon the lens, a color dye for diminishing the transmission of radiation having a wavelength of between 500-600 nm, and a grey dye for reducing the transmission of visible light. A corresponding method is also provided, along with a method and a kit for producing such a lens.
