Gear oil compositions including a first oil basestock and a second basestock. The first basestock includes a Group II bright stock having a kinematic viscosity (ASTM D445, 40° C.) of from 250 mm/s to 600 mm/s, a kinematic viscosity (ASTM D445, 100° C.) of from 20 mm/s to 70 mm/s, a viscosity index (ASTM D2270) of from 80 to 120, and a pour point (ASTM D97) of from −50° C. to −20° C. The second basestock includes a polyalphaolefin (PAO) basestock having a kinematic viscosity (ASTM D445, 40° C.) of from 500 mm/s to 3500 mm/s, a kinematic viscosity (ASTM D445, 100° C.) of from 60 mm/s to 300 mm/s, a viscosity index (ASTM D2270) of from 150 to 250, and a pour point (ASTM D97) of from −50° C. to −20° C.

High performance gear oil and related methods

A method for improving filterability, while maintaining or improving antifoaming performance, of a lubricating oil in an engine or other mechanical component lubricated with the lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil. The antifoam agent is a silicone composition having a highly branched functionalized silicone backbone. The lubricating oils are useful as automotive gear lubricating compositions.

Method for improving lubricant antifoaming performance and filterability

A system for in-situ identification of a working fluid disposed in at least one piece of equipment, the system including: a working fluid reservoir that contains the working fluid; an in-situ sensor disposed in the working fluid reservoir such that it detects properties of the working fluid or computes properties from the generated spectra of the working fluid; a transmitter that transmits the detected spectra of the working fluid and equipment identification information; and a cloud computing system that receives the detected spectra and the equipment identification information transmitted from the transmitter, wherein the cloud computing system compares the spectra and equipment identification information against a reference database to determine whether or not the spectra of the working fluid substantially matches the stored reference spectra associated with the expected or specified fluid for the equipment.

Method and system for in-situ identification of working fluids

Systems and methods are provided for authenticating working fluids. The systems and methods include exposing at least a portion of a working fluid containing a UV-reactive chemical marker to light having wavelengths in the range of about 10-400 nm, thereby causing the chemical marker to generate a signal. The signal can be detected via a sensor system and compared to a reference signal that is associated with an authentic working fluid. An output may be generated to indicate whether the working fluid is the authentic working fluid.

Systems and methods for authenticating working fluids

The lubricating composition of this invention is primarily comprised of an admixture of an API Group V base oil component and a polyolefin base oil component. In general, the blend components include at least 45 wt. % of a Group V base oil component having a kinematic viscosity of less than 20 cSt at 100&#xb0; C., and from 10 wt. % to 60 wt. % of a polyolefin base oil component having a kinematic viscosity of at least 500 cSt and not greater than 4000 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. The lubricating composition has improved efficiency and lower operating temperatures, comparable to polyalkylene glycol-based lubricant level, which provides improved machine life and seal life, relative to other lubricating compositions.
