The present invention relates to generation of radio frequency signals by digital components. In particular, data for specifying a baseband signal are generated at a centralized processing device, and the data relating to the baseband signal are transmitted to radio frequency transmitters via a digital network. The radio-frequency transmitters digitally generate radio-frequency signals based on the data obtained via the digital network, and the generated radio frequency signals are provided to a connector or an antenna.

A calibration apparatus for calibrating at least one of a signal generator and a signal analyzer is described, wherein the calibration apparatus comprises an input terminal for establishing a connection with the signal generator, an output terminal for establishing a connection with the signal analyzer, a reference signal source for providing a reference signal, and a combiner circuit for combining signals received. The combiner circuit has a first input connected to the reference signal source and a second input assigned to the input terminal, the combiner circuit having an output assigned to the output terminal. The present invention relates to a modular and flexible measurement of radio-frequency signals. For this purpose, the measurement system is separated into a connection device performing digital operations and a radio-frequency signals comprising analogue circuits. The connection device and the radio-frequency device are coupled with each other by appropriate interfaces for exchanging signals, in particular digital signals between the communication device and the radio-frequency device.
