In a method for severing a solid body, a defined contour is stored in a control unit configured to detect contour breaches and to avoid contour breaches. A high-energy beam is moved along a contour on a surface of the solid body, with the surface of the solid body facing the high-energy beam, to produce with the high-energy beam a cutting gap. The contour on the surface is compared with the defined contour stored in the control unit, and avoidance of the contour breach is automatically deactivated when the contour on the surface of the solid body matches the defined contour and a contour breach is detected. Otherwise, the contour is omitted. Advantageously, the high-energy beam travels along the contour with an averaged line movement.

Method for detecting and processing defined contours during severing of a solid body by means of a high-energy beam

A method for cutting a workpiece includes cutting the workpiece along a predefined cutting contour to separate a workpiece part from a scrap part, and checking whether the workpiece part has been fully separated from the scrap part during the cutting. The workpiece is re-cut along an additional cutting contour laterally offset from the predefined cutting contour if it is found during the checking that the workpiece part has not been fully separated from the scrap part. The disclosure also relates to an associated machine for cutting a workpiece.

Cutting a workpiece

The invention relates to methods and machine tools for processing workpieces, in which a workpiece and one or more processing tools are moved relative to each other with a positioning movement, an outward-stroke movement, and a return-stroke movement. In the positioning movement, the workpiece and the processing tool are positioned relative to each other in a positioning direction, in a return-stroke movement the workpiece and the processing tool are moved relative to each other and away from each other in a return-stroke direction transverse to the positioning direction, and in the outward-stroke movement the workpiece and the processing tool are moved relative to each other and towards each other in an outward-stroke direction transverse to the positioning direction. The return-stroke movement and the outward-stroke movement are executed during the positioning movement.
