A controller for an industrial automation system includes a main module having a housing, which can be fitted onto a DIN rail via a base, at least two printed circuit boards arranged in the housing, and a heat sink also arranged in the housing and connected with the base. One of the circuit boards is a backplane bus printed circuit board, which provides a backplane bus, and the other is a main printed circuit board. The heat sink is attached to at least one of the printed circuit board to cool its components.

Controller and modular control system of an industrial automation system

A control system for an industrial automation facility and a method for programming and operating the control system use a program for the control system which is developed with a development tool. Data from a web server built into the control system is transmitted to a computer which is connected to the control system via a network. The data includes a web-based development environment. A representation of the development environment in a web browser is embodied on the computer. A program for the control system is developed or processed by a user. The program developed and/or processed by the user is converted into a high-level language program by a conversion module embodied in the web browser. The high-level language program is transmitted to the control system and converted into a binary program inside the control system. The binary program is implemented by the control system.

Control system for an industrial automation facility and method for programming and operating such a control system

A method and apparatus for operating a field bus coupler in a normal operating mode to connect at least one input/output module with the control computer of an industrial automation system, including receiving from the control computer via a field bus a control output value that is transmitted via a sub-bus to the at least one input/output module, and receiving from the at least one input/output module via a sub-bus a control input value that is transmitted via the field bus to the control computer. During a diagnostic mode, the apparatus is operable to assign to the at least one input/output module via the sub-bus at least one desired diagnostic output value, and to assign to the control computer via the field bus at least one desired input value.

A method and apparatus for producing an image of an input/output arrangement for an industrial automation system, comprising storing in a field bus coupler at least one image data file containing image data, transmitting the image data from the image data file to a service computer connected with the field bus coupler, and generating and displaying in the service computer an image that is a function of the image data transmitted from the field bus coupler. Additional image data may be stored in a module for transmittal to the service computer via a sub-bus and the field bus coupler, thereby to generate and display in the service computer a resultant image that is a function of both the image data and the additional image data.

Input/output system for an industrial automation system and method for providing an image of an input/output system

The method and apparatus for detecting in a receiver a transmitter local time, comprising determining a reference time for the transmitter local time; receiving from the transmitter a transmission time duration signal that elapsed on the transmitter since the reference time for the transmitter local time; and determining the transmitter local time based on the reference time for the transmitter local time and the received transmitter time duration. A time stamp signal based on the transmitter local time signal is generated at the receiver and is superimposed on the sensor data stream transmitted to the receiver. Consequently, the advantage is provided that a data stream can be transmitted without the incorporation of any time stamp.

A mounting rail bus system for supplying power voltage and data signals to a plurality of modules, including a plurality of longitudinally-arranged bus devices mounting the modules in parallel spaced transverse relation on a mounting rail, each of the bus devices including a printed circuit board having parallel strip conductors for transmitting data signals, and a pair of power contact pins for transmitting a power voltage, characterized by the provision of a plurality of generally L-shaped double bushing contact elements have module bush segments for respectively connecting the strip conductors and the contact pins of the bus device with the associated module, and orthogonally arranged partner bush segments for connecting together the strip conductors and pin contacts of adjacent bus devices, respectively, whereby power voltage and data signals are transmitted from the bus device both to the associated module and to the adjacent partner bus device.
