The present invention describes reaction products from 2,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with a content of at least 95 wt. % of 2,4&#x2032; isomer with at least one polyether-polyol and/or polyalkylene glycol with a molecular weight of less than 1,000 and/or one crystalline or partly crystalline or vitreously amorphous polyester-polyol and optionally polyester-polyols and/or polyether-polyols which are liquid at room temperature and have molecular weights of greater than 1,000 can be converted into adhesive compositions which have a very low content of monomeric diisocyanate of less than 0.5, preferably less than 0.25 wt. %. Such hot melt adhesive compositions have a high melt stability and a low viscosity, in addition to the low content of monomeric diisocyanate.

Polyurethane compositions are produced in a two-stage method. In a first step, a diol component with a molecular weight of less than 2000 is reacted with a monomeric diisocyanate with a molecular weight of less than 500 and the unreacted monomeric diisocyanate is removed from this reaction product. In a second step, the resulting high-molecular diisocyanate is reacted with a polyol to produce a reactive prepolymer with isocyanate and groups. The addition of polyisocyanates which are capable of migration and which have a substantially lower vapor pressure than diphenylmethanediisocyanate, improves the addition behavior of the invention polyurethane compositions. Reactive polyurethane compositions of this type are suitable for using as binding agents for reactive one or two component adhesives/sealants, which may optionally contain solvents. These compositions are also suitable for producing reactive hot melt adhesives when suitable polyols are selected. A substantial advantage of these compositions compared to known polyurethane compositions is the considerably lower proportion of monomeric diisocyanates with a molecular weight of less than 500.

Adhesion promoters for monomer-free reactive polyurethanes

A process for the production of a polyurethane hot-melt adhesive based on grafted polyester-polyether block copolymers with grafted-on hydroxyl groups and the reaction thereof with a stoichiometric excess of a polyisocyanate and the optional mixing thereof with further pre-polymers based on polyether polyols and polyester polyols is disclosed. By this process, the polyester-polyether block copolymers are firmly incorporated into the polyurethane matrix on curing, so that they are migration-proof. Highly-elastic hot-melt adhesives result, which, with optional foaming, are also suitable for the production of elastic seals.

The present invention relates to compositions comprising reaction products of a polyisocyanate with a polyester block copolymer and a process for the preparation thereof. These are suitable as a moisture-curing hot melt adhesive. The hot melt adhesive composition may optionally also comprise a reaction product of a polyisocyanate with a polyester polyol and/or a reaction product of a polyisocyanate with a polyether polyol. Such polyurethane hot melt adhesive compositions have good creep resistance and interfacial adhesion values on plastics and show very high strength values.

The invention relates to thermoplastic compositions that contain reactive isocyanate groups and that are suitable for use as desiccants for packaging moisture-sensitive goods, especially for polyurethane hotmelt adhesives that are cross-linked upon exposure to moisture. Hotmelt polyurethane adhesive compositions which are solid at room temperature and capable of being cured by moisture are obtained by combining the reaction product of a polyisocyanate and a low molecular weight polymer derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers and containing active hydrogen groups such as hydroxyl with an isocyanate-containing polyurethane prepolymer derived from one or more polyols. The low molecular weight polymer component may, for example, be obtained by free radical polymerization of mixtures of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids, alkyl esters of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids, and/or hydroxyalkyl esters of unsaturated monocarboxylic acids.
