A muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes a muffler housing having a peripheral wall elongated along a longitudinal housing axis. The muffler has an end wall on each axial end region of the peripheral wall and a muffler insert, surrounded by the peripheral wall and supported on the peripheral wall. A retaining wall extends substantially in the direction of the longitudinal housing axis and a first exhaust-gas routing pipe is positioned with a first end region engaging in an opening in the peripheral wall and is secured to the peripheral wall and retained with a second end region on the retaining wall. The first exhaust-gas routing pipe is retained in its second end region on the retaining wall by force closure or interlocking.

A process manufactures an exhaust gas treatment device including a tubular circumferential wall () elongated along a longitudinal axis (L) with two axial end areas, an exhaust gas treatment unit () arranged in the circumferential wall and a closing element () connected to the circumferential wall at the two axial end areas. The exhaust gas treatment unit is held at the circumferential wall by a supporting material layer () enclosing the exhaust gas treatment unit and supporting same in relation to the circumferential wall. The present invention relates to an exhaust gas cleaning device () of an exhaust system () of a combustion engine, more preferably of a motor vehicle, with a catalytic converter unit () having a catalytic converter support pipe () and at least one oxidation catalytic converter element () mounted in the catalytic converter support pipe (), and with a particle filter unit () having a particle filter support pipe () and at least one particle filter element () mounted in the particle filter support pipe ().
