Video signals are stored on a continuously movable magnetic tape with a dissection of the video signals into a plurality of partial signals and simultaneously recording the partial signals in a plurality of longitudinal tracks which extend parallel to one another. Inasmuch as mutual influences of the individual image formation to be stored are to be reduced, even given a great recording density, the signal lines of the video signal are employed as partial signals, whereby the line signals belonging to a television image are combined to at least one group and are successively recorded in groups. All line signals belonging to one and the same group are simultaneously recorded on a plurality of longitudinal tracks after an intermediate storage. The invention finds particular application in video recorders having longitudinal track recording.

A process for the gamma correction of video signals, in which the luminance signal in the signal transmission path and at least one signal containing an item of color information are multiplicatively corrected, provides that, in addition to the luminance signal, at least two color difference signals are corrected by way of individual, controlled correcting stages whose control signals are obtained from the luminance signal. The gamma correction is carried out in a single tube color television camera and provides that an additional color difference signal may be corrected in a separate correcting stage.

The invention relates to a process for the contour correction of the luminance signal in a television camera in which a horizontal contour signal is added to a relatively poorly defined luminance signal in order to increase the vertical resolution, and a vertical contour signal is added thereto in order to increase the horizontal resolution. An additional contour signal (W.sub.HV) is formed from the product of the horizontal contour signal (W.sub.H) with the vertical contour signal (W.sub.V), which additional contour signal is deducted from the luminance signal (W.sub.O).

A circuit and process for decoding the output signal of a single-tube color television camera which is characterized in that the output signal of the camera tube is connected to a high-pass filter and a low-pass filter each of which are followed by two series-connected delay lines exhibiting a delay in each case of one line length, that the series connection of the delay lines are each connected to two summing elements each with three inputs for the undelayed signal, the singly delayed signal and the doubly delayed signal, where a further summing element for the undelayed and the doubly delayed high frequency signal is connected to the high-pass filter and the following delay lines, that the outputs of the first two summing elements which are connected to the high-pass filter each lead through a band-pass filter and a demodulator to an input of a matrix. A third and fourth summing element are connected to the doubly delayed, the singly delayed and the undelayed lines from the low-pass filter. A fifth summing element is connected to the doubly delayed line and to the undelayed line from the high-pass filter, a transit time element connected to the fifth summing element which serves to match the transit time of the low-pass filter and the outputs of the two summing elements connected to the low-pass filter, to the inputs of an adder element, where the output of the adder element carries the clearly defined luminance signal and two outputs from the matrix which carry two color difference signals.

An arrangement for regulating the amplitude of a sawtooth generator employs a capacitor which is periodically charged and discharged by a current source by way of a switch, the switch being controlled by a synchronizing signal. The regulating circuit is provided with a second capacitor across which the mean value of the sawtooth pulses present across the first capacitor is formed. The regulating circuit also contains a comparator which compares the mean value with a reference value, and in dependence upon this comparison, the charging current for the first capacitor is controlled in such a manner that the mean value is equal to the reference value.

A single tube color television camera employs a camera tube and two color strip filters located one behind the other in the optical image axis. The strip filters may either be installed in the camera tube or structurally separated therefrom and have different color filter effects whereby both filters have the color strips thereof angularly displaced with respect to the vertical image axis by the same angle, but in opposite directions. The television camera also comprises a decoding arrangement containing a comb filter for splitting the output signal of the camera tube to provide a luminous brightness signal and two color signals each having a spectrum containing frequencies which are shifted with respect to an integral multiple of the line frequency by a fraction of the line frequency, one color signal being shifted toward higher frequencies and the other toward lower frequencies.
