A placement device () for placing decorative elements () on a textile or non-textile sheet material is connected to a sewing machine. The decorative elements () are stored in an ordered way in magazines () and are fed in a controlled way by the control of the sewing machine to the appropriate set positions on the sheet material () and are connected to this material.

A device for cutting textile and non-textile sheet materials with a sewing machine having a turning device () that can be mounted on the lower end of the needle bar (). A cutting needle () is inserted from below into the turning device () instead of a sewing needle and can be brought into the desired cutting position, for example, by a fin () that projects from the turning device ().

An embroidery hoop () for a sewing machine or embroidery machine having two hoop parts, namely the lower hoop part () and the upper hoop part (). A method and device for controlling movement of the needle in a sewing machine () based on a detection device (), which detects the movements of the visible surface of the manually displaceable article to be sewn () is provided. The stitch formation of the sewing machine () is controlled by detected changes in positions of the article to be sewn () in connection with a predetermined stitch length. The detection device () can be integrated into a sewing foot () entirely or partially.

In an upright () of a sewing machine (), a thread spool holder () is mounted in a recess () so that it can pivot out of the recess (). On this holder, thread spool pins () are placed, as well as an arm (), on whose upper end thread guidance elements () are fixed. For use, the cover () which covers the thread spool holder () in the stowed state is opened, and the thread spool holder () is pivoted out from the recess ().
