A process for making an alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation having a magnesium salt concentration of less than about 10 ppm involving the steps of: (a) providing an alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation having an active substance content of from about 10 to 70% by weight, based on the weight of the preparation; (b) providing an acid component; (c) adjusting the pH of the alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation to from about 4 to 9.5 by combining the acid component with the alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation to form a pH-modified alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation; (d) providing a column charged with an ion exchange resin; and (e) purifying the pH-modified alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation by passing it through the column of step (d) at a viscosity of from about 20 to 6,000 mPas, and at a temperature of from about 20 to 90&#xb0; C. to form the alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside preparation having a magnesium salt concentration of less than about 10 ppm.

Alkyl and/or alkenyloligoglycoside preparations having reduced magnesium salt concentrations

Processes for preparing light-colored alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside mixtures are disclosed. The processes disclosed include providing an initial mixture of an alk(en)yl oligoglycoside and a rheology-modifying agent, the mixture having a viscosity of from 10 to 1000 mPas at a temperature of from 85 to 130&#xb0; C., and a water content of less than 2% by weight, based on the alk(en)yl oligoglycoside; and bleaching the initial mixture at a temperature of from 85 to 130&#xb0; C. to form a light-colored surfactant mixture having a water content of less than 2% by weight, based on the alk(en)yl oligoglycoside. Also disclosed is the use of such mixtures in cleaning compositions, such as detergents, washing and dishwashing compositions.

Processes for preparing light-colored alk(en)yl oligoglycoside mixtures

A laundry detergent composition containing a surfactant system having: (a) an alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycoside; (b) from about 5 to 35% by weight of a fatty alcohol; and (c) up to 2% by weight water, all weights being based on the weight of the surfactant system.

Laundry detergents and cleaning products based on alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides and fatty alcohols

The proposal is for unsaturated fatty substances with improved cold behavior obtained by (a) transesterifying a new low stearic (LS) sunflower oil with an oleic acid content of over 85 wt. % and a stearic acid content of under 3 wt. %, and (b) hydrogenating the resultant methyl esters in the prior art manner into the corresponding unsaturated fatty alcohols in the iodine number range from 90 to 100. The fatty substances are also distinguished by improved color and odor and are suitable for making fatty chemical products, e.g. alkoxylates, ether sulphates, sulphates and esters.
