A mono or multi-layer polyester film is described. Also described, is a process for producing the mono or multi-layer polyester film, the use of a surface-treated filler material product as a voiding agent in the mono or multi-layer polyester film, and an article including the mono or multi-layer polyester film. Further, use of the mono or multi-layer polyester film is described in packaging products, insulating materials, solar, marine or aviation applications, science, electronic or acoustic applications, wires, cables, radio frequency identifications, flexible circuits, graphic arts, stone paper, holograms, filter products, cosmetic products, household products, imaging, recording media, or industrial products.

Surface-treated fillers for polyester films

The present invention relates to a mono or multi-layer polyester film, a process for producing the mono or multi-layer polyester film, an article comprising the mono or multi-layer polyester film as well as the use of the mono or multi-layer polyester film packaging products, insulating materials, solar, marine or aviation applications, science, electronic or acoustic applications, wires, cables, radio frequency identifications, flexible circuits, graphic arts, stone paper, holograms, filter products, cosmetic products, household products imaging, recording media, or industrial products.

The present invention refers to the use of at least one mono-substituted succinic anhydride before or during extrusion of a polymer composition comprising polylactic acid as polymer component and at least one calcium carbonate-comprising material as filler, to reduce the polymer decomposition during processing and/or to decrease the melt flow rate of such an extruded polymer as well as a method for reducing the polymer decomposition during processing and decreasing the melt flow rate of a polymer composition comprising polylactic acid as polymer component and at least one calcium carbonate-comprising material as filler, the use of a polymer composition obtainable by a process comprising the steps of a) providing at least one polylactic acid as polymer component, b) providing at least one calcium carbonate-comprising material as filler, c) providing at least one mono-substituted succinic anhydride and d) contacting the components of a), b) and c) in any order and e) extruding the contacted components of step d) as well as an article comprising a polymer composition obtainable by the aforementioned process.

Use of mono-substituted succinic anhydride

The use of at least one mono-substituted succinic anhydride is described before or during compounding of a polymer composition including at least one polymer as polymer component and at least one calcium carbonate-based material as filler. The use of the at least one mono-substituted succinic anhydride can reduce the polymer decomposition during processing and/or can decrease the melt flow rate of such a compounded polymer composition by at least 10%. The use can also increase the viscosity of such a compounded polymer composition by at least 10%, in comparison to the same polymer composition that has been treated the same way in the absence of any mono-substituted succinic anhydride, wherein the polymer composition does not include polylactic acid.

A mono or multi-layer biaxially oriented polyester film is described. Also described, is a process for producing the mono or multi-layer biaxially oriented polyester film. Uses of a surface-treated filler material product as a voiding agent in the mono or multi-layer biaxially oriented polyester film, an article that includes the mono or multi-layer biaxially oriented polyester film as well as the use of the mono or multi-layer biaxially oriented polyester film in packaging products are also described. The packaging products can include: paper and glass coverings, insulating materials, solar, marine and aviation applications, science, electronic and acoustic applications, wires, cables, radio frequency identifications, flexible circuits, graphic arts, filter products, cosmetic products, household products, imaging and recording media, or industrial products.
