A magnetic recording system is disclosed in which the magnetization dynamics of the write head and recording medium are highly damped. The system may comprise a perpendicular recording head having a write pole, and a recording medium including a hard magnetic recording layer and a soft magnetic underlayer (SUL). The increased magnetic damping in the write pole and SUL suppresses precessional motion of the respective magnetizations, leading to a reduction in transition jitter caused by spurious head field fluctuations. The damping may be increased by providing films or multilayer structures that are doped with rare earth or transition metal elements. Exchange coupled laminates of doped and undoped layers may optimize both the effective damping and write field in the recording system.

The magnetoresistive sensor has an MR stack and side shields formed by contacts and/or pedestals on either side of the MR stack. The materials for the contacts and pedestals are selected to be magnetically soft, electrically conductive and have a low AMR signal. The contacts and pedestals are magnetically decoupled from the hard bias materials by placement of spacers.

A recording head for use with magnetic recording media has an improved structure, made by a simplified manufacturing process. The electrically insulating materials within the recording head are inorganic. The insulating materials are vacuum deposited, with no need to use a hard bake process that would be required for use of organic insulators. In one embodiment, the write gap is first masked, and then the coil is deposited on the write gap. A slightly larger area is then exposed within the mask, permitting insulation to be deposited over the coil. In a second embodiment, the coil and associated insulation are deposited and then milled to have a tapered configuration. This recording head also places the writing pole on a very flat surface, thereby allowing plated or deposited films to be easily manufactured to correspond to narrow track widths.

Method of making a recording head

A perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a multilayered main write pole. The main write pole includes a first layer of material, a second layer of material, and an interlayer positioned between the first layer of material and the second layer of material. The second layer of material has a saturation magnetic moment greater than a saturation magnetic moment of the first layer of material.

A write pole for a magnetic recording head, such as a perpendicular magnetic recording head, includes a first layer of material adjacent a second layer of material. In one embodiment, the first layer of material has a saturation magnetic moment less than about 1.0 T and the second layer of material has a saturation magnetic moment greater than the saturation magnetic moment of the first layer of material. The first layer of material may include (NiFe) X , wherein X comprises Cr, Cu and/or Ti and wherein y is in the range of about 2 to about 50.

Low moment material for magnetic recording head write pole

A ferromagnetic shield material having a minimized anisotropic magneto-resistance effect permits the use of a combined shield/electrical lead for magneto-resistive read elements. The shields/electrical leads may therefore be placed closer together, maximizing the recording density that may be read by a magnetic recording head using a read element having such shields/leads.

A magnetic recording head includes a write pole having alternating layers of Fe and Co and a return pole magnetically coupled to the write pole. The layers of Fe may have a thickness from about 1.0 angstroms to about 40.0 angstroms and the layers of Co may have a thickness from about 1.0 angstroms to about 20.0 angstroms. The write pole may have a saturation magnetization greater than about 2.45 Tesla. A method for forming a write pole for a magnetic recording head is also disclosed.

A perpendicular magnetic recording head includes a laminated main write pole and a return pole magnetically coupled to the main write pole. The main write pole includes a first magnetic layer having a high saturation magnetization, a second magnetic layer having a high saturation magnetization, and a non-magnetic interlayer positioned between the first magnetic layer and the second magnetic layer. The first and second magnetic layers may comprise, for example, Fe Co , wherein 40&lE;x&lE;90 and 10&lE;y&lE;60.

A write head comprises a yoke including a top pole and a bottom pole, the top pole including a layer of insulating material, a layer of a first magnetic material positioned on a surface of the layer of insulating material, the first magnetic material having a first end positioned adjacent to an air bearing surface of the write pole, and a layer of a second magnetic material positioned on the surface of the layer of insulating material, the second magnetic material having a lower magnetic moment than the first magnetic material and being positioned to conduct magnetic flux between the return pole and the layer of first magnetic material. The method of constructing the write head and a disc drive including the write head are also included.

A grader especially adapted for use in association with a tractor having a three-point hitch with the grader being capable of use in cutting, moving, spreading and leveling all types of soil, aggregate and the like. The grader can also be used to carry, spread and level hot and cold asphalt, soil, aggregate and the like. The grader has blades adjustable to a predetermined depth with the specific angle of the grader blades and the speed of movement in relation to the surface being worked determining the operational characteristics of the grader. The grader includes a pair of transversely extending blades oriented at a particular angle and being vertically adjustably attached to a pair of side frame members having ground engaging slide shoes along the lower surface thereof. The ends of the blades are vertically adjustably connected to the side frame members and provided with manually operated cam structures to adjust the blades vertically. The blades are mounted on an angled support bar in vertically adjusted positions to enable the position of the blades to be adjusted to compensate for wear.
