A communication device and corresponding methods are provided. The device includes a display screen upon which information is displayed. A microprocessor configured to execute at least one notification program is provided that displays a notification descriptive of an access control request on the display screen. The at least one notification program is programmed to receive data indicative of an access control request and to receive data descriptive of the access control request. Additionally, the at least one notification program is further programmed to display a notification indicative of the access control request and comprising an explanation of the access control request based on the received descriptive data.

A system and method for selectively securing data from unauthorized access on a client device storing a plurality of data types with reference to an authorization level indicated in a command. A command is received at a client device comprising an authorization level indicator. Based on at least one predefined rule, which may be implemented in an IT policy stored at the client device, each of the plurality of data types to be secured is determined, and then the data corresponding to those types is secured. The data may be secured by encrypting and/or deleting the data at the client device. The digital certificate includes an extension. The extension contains a second public key of the entity, a second digital signature of the certificate authority, or both, associated with a second cryptosystem. The extension contains a policy field that includes instructions for processing the fields associated with the second cryptosystem.

A method of authenticating access on an electronic device. A digital image overlaid by an array of alphanumeric characters is displayed on a three-dimensional display of the electronic device. The digital image includes a three-dimensional representation of a scene and is displayed in three-dimensional coordinates. The array of alphanumeric characters is positioned on the three-dimensional display with respect to the digital image in three dimensions in response to received input. In a general aspect, a Merkel signature scheme (MSS) uses subtree data. In some aspects, subtree data is loaded from a non-volatile memory into a volatile memory. The subtree data represents one or more nodes of a subtree of a cryptographic hash tree and a first authentication path portion that includes nodes outside the subtree. The subtree includes a subtree root node at a level below a root node of the cryptographic hash tree and lowest-level nodes of the cryptographic hash tree, which are based on respective verification keys for a one-time signature (OTS) scheme. An OTS is generated using a first signing key associated with a first verification key, which is associated with a lowest-level node in the subtree. The OTS, the first verification key, the first authentication path portion, and a second authentication path portion comprising one or more nodes of the subtree are sent to a recipient.
