A method for classifying liquid handling procedures comprises includes receiving measurement data encoding a measurement curve of measurements over time during at least a part of a liquid handling procedure; inputting the measurement data into a neural network; and calculating at least one quality value for the liquid handling procedure with the neural network.

Pipetting device for pipetting a liquid driven by a gaseous working medium, the pipetting device having at least one pipette connector adapted to attach a pipette at a connection opening at least one pressurizing and/or suctioning pressure source, a gas flow connection between said connection opening and at least one pressure source, a flow restriction defining at least a section of said gas flow connection, a first sensor configured to measure a quantity indicative of the temperature of the flow restriction. Pipetting device and method

A pipette tip extension attachable to a pipette tip having a proximal end, a distal end, and an exterior wall extending between the proximal end and the distal end is disclosed. The exterior wall has an outer side and an inner side and forms at the proximal end a reception aperture for inserting a pipette tip, and at the distal end a dispense aperture. The pipette tip extension further has an inner cavity, a distance element connected to the inner side of the exterior wall, and a constriction element.

A liquid class including control parameters for controlling a laboratory automation device when handling a liquid of a liquid type assigned to the liquid class with a pipette tip of a pipette tip type assigned to the liquid class, and a method for optimizing the liquid class. The method can include initializing a genetic algorithm with a start liquid class by generating a set of liquid classes by modifying control parameters of the start liquid class. The method can further include optimizing the liquid class iteratively with the genetic algorithm by applying liquid classes from the set of liquid classes to the laboratory automation device, which performs at least one aspiration and dispensing measurement for each applied liquid class, as well as additional method acts.
