A low profile hospital bed includes a mattress support frame and pivotably mounted wheel frames. Lift actuators connecting between the mattress support frame and the wheel frames move the wheel frames between a folded position and an unfolded position. When the wheel frames are in the folded position, the lift actuators are relatively horizontal and thus unable to provide enough vertical force to move the wheel frames. Accordingly, connecting between the actuators and the wheel frames are leverage members which rotate and urge the wheel frames away from mattress support frame during an initial, first stage of movement as the wheel frames partially unfold. After the first stage of movement, the leverage members function as simple mechanical links between the lift actuators and the wheel frames as the lift actuators continue to power the complete unfolding of the wheel frames.

Low profile hospital bed

A hospital bed weighing system includes four carriage assemblies and a frame assembly. Each of the four carriage assemblies includes a wheel support member for receiving and supporting one of the four wheels of a typical hospital bed. Two caster wheels are mounted at opposite ends of each carriage assembly by a load cell. Inputs from the load cells is analyzed and displayed by a weight display unit which may be calibrated to weigh a bed occupant by subtracting out the weight of the supported bed. The four carriage assemblies are positioned relative to each other by an adjustable frame assembly which is designed to not transfer substantial loads between the carriage assemblies. Since the carriage assemblies are supported by caster wheels, a bed supported by the weighing system may be moved about substantially as if it were rolled upon its own wheels.

Portable weighing system

The patient support apparatus includes a base frame and a patient support assembly. The patient support assembly is pivotably mounted the base frame and is moved by a first actuator to rotate between a horizontal position and an upright position. The patient support assembly includes an upper body portion, a lower body portion and a leg portion. The upper body portion, the lower body portion and the leg portion are pivotably interconnected with a linkage frame so that they can be moved in unison by a second actuator between a supine configuration and an upright, chair shaped configuration. Thus, the patient support apparatus is adjustable between a flat, bed shaped configuration and a seat shaped configuration and is also movable between a horizontal position and an upright position.

The system of present invention is intended for use with a bed having a drive system for moving at least one movable section of the bed and a weight meter which receives transducer signals from transducers in the legs of the bed and displays a patient weight. In the system of the present invention the weight meter is operably coupled to the drive system so that when the drive system is activated, the weight meter automatically enters a hold mode wherein the weight meter stores the most recent weight value as a hold weight value. When the bed drive system is deactivated, the weight meter automatically returns to the operating mode by converting changes in the signals from the transducers into a change in weight value that is added to or subtracted from the hold weight value.
