A substrate for use in an aqueous slurry has a polymeric coating to provide a compliant and sticky surface. The polymer coating has a chemical to render the surface hydrophobic so as to attract hydrophobic or hydrophobized mineral particles in the slurry. The substrate can take the form of a conveyor belt, a bead, a mesh, an impeller, a filter or a flat surface. The substrate can also be an open-cell foam. The polymeric coating can be modified with tackifiers; plasticizers; crosslinking agents; chain transfer agents; chain extenders; adhesion promoters; aryl or alky copolymers; fluorinated copolymers and/or additives; hydrophobicizing agents such as hexamethyldisilazane; inorganic particles such as silica, hydrophobic silica, and/or fumed hydrophobic silica; MQ resin; and/or other additives to control and modify the properties of the polymer.

A bracelet-like device adapted to be worn on a Farrier's wrist is provided for holding a multitude of horse shoe nails in an orderly array. The device utilizes arcuately shaped forward and rearward aligned members which secure the nails by frictional means. The nails are disposed in parallel juxtaposition with their heads forwardly directed, and pointed extremities rearwardly directed.

A multi-functional adjustable hand tool useful in attaching shoes to the hooves of horses is comprised of two lever members pivotably interengaged in the general manner of pliers and having opposed fixed and adjustable jaws. The adjustable jaw is capable of being disposed in several positions relative to the fixed jaw to provide the various jaw separations of clinching tools used by farriers. A nail cutter associated with the jaws provides even further versatility of the tool, causing it to be a replacement for several standard farrier's tools.
