A flow slowing boom for slowing the speed of a buoyant fluid floating on moving water having a direction of water movement and a water surface includes a support structure for positioning at the surface of a body of water across the direction of water movement; an anchoring structure for anchoring the support structure relative to the moving water; a skirt structure; and a pivot structure interconnecting the support structure and the skirt structure so that the skirt structure is pivotably suspended from the support structure and moving water pivots the skirt structure out of a suspended vertical orientation to any of a range of angles beyond vertical including horizontal, thereby constraining buoyant fluid to flow across the skirt structure to slow the speed of the fluid and thus to permit the fluid to buoy toward the water surface for containment. A boom system and method are also provided.

An improved ammunition loading device designed for cartridges having radially extending rims, such as 0.22 calibre cartridges. The invention comprises a body having a spiral groove and a feed arrangement to drive the cartridges through the groove and into a magazine. A manual crank has an eccentric cam which operates two mechanisms alternately on each rotation of the crank. On half the rotation it operates a feed finger which inserts the next cartridge exiting the spiral groove into the magazine, and on the other half of that same rotation it advances the line of cartridges to present a fresh cartridge for insertion on the first half of the next rotation.

An improved magazine wherein cartridges are loaded therein in two nested helical rows. Improvements further include a spring loaded feed lip bar which permits rapid loading and unloading of the magazine; a rod inside the drive spring in the magazine which prevents kinking and other undesirable operation characteristics of the main drive spring and which also permits the main drive spring tension to be released only when the magazine is not mounted on the cooperating gun; and a folding winder which is part of the magazine's rear end clutch and winder assembly which speeds winding of the spring.

Large capacity ammunition magazine

An improved magazine housing assembly for quickly assembling and disassembling the magazine. The magazine housing assembly includes first and second elongated housing halves, a first elongated clip for slideably engaging a first dovetail formed by the housing halves and a second elongated clip for slideably engaging a second dovetail formed by the housing halves. The improvement being that the first dovetail has a substantially continuous dovetail half on one of the housing halves and a segmented dovetail half on the other of the housing halves, which is slideably engaged by the first elongated clip having a continuous retaining ledge and a segmented retaining ledge. Accordingly, this arrangement permits the first elongated clip to be attached to or removed from the first dovetail without having to slide the first clip the entire length of the first dovetail.

Ammunition magazine housing assembly

A loader particularly adapted for a cylindrical helical path feed ammunition magazine, the loader being able to accept cartridges as provided by the cartridge manufacturer in trays, whole trays at a time. The loader is made up of two hinged arms, with a platform on one of the arms to accept the tray of cartridges. After the tray is removed, the cartridges remain in the same array as they were in when in the tray, and then the arms are closed to create a dense mass of the large number of cartridges. The loader is then positioned vertically, a magazine inserted, and the cartridges quickly loaded into the magazine by turning a crank.

An improved gun/magazine system which is top loading and wherein the magazine is of generally cylindrical configuration. A spiral drive of the cartridges through the magazine into the top loading receiver of the gun is provided. The magazine includes a spring/winder having a silent clutch which permits tensioning of the drive spring at any time and even immediately before use, and which has a release means in order to permit relaxing of the spring in the event the unprecedented large capacity of cartridges is not entirely expended from the magazine. The cylindrical shaped magazine is mounted above, parallel to, and closely adjacent to the axis of the gun.

The disclosure relates to firearms, especially recoil or gas operated firearms, having a receiver for cartridges, and having a magazine for containing a plurality of cartridges. The magazine can be disposed above and substantially parallel with respect to the barrel. The magazine includes a housing with a helically disposed member providing a helical passageway for the cartridges. The cartridges are supported on a cartridge carrier located in the housing, which can be rotated by a torque spring. The cartridges are unloaded from the magazine by a feed lip insert providing communication with the receiver of the firearm.
