A vision system for a vehicle includes a camera disposed at a vehicle and having a field of view exterior of the vehicle, an image processor operable to process image data captured by the camera, and a display operable to display images derived from image data captured by the camera. The image processor, via processing of image data captured by the camera, determines a noise level in image data captured by the camera. The vision system applies a lens shading algorithm to captured image data, and the vision system adjusts a level of the lens shading algorithm responsive to the determined noise level.

A vision system for a vehicle includes a camera module configured to be disposed at the vehicle so as to have a field of view exterior of the vehicle. The camera module includes a lens, a mirror reflector element, a first imager and a second imager. The mirror reflector element is disposed along a longitudinal axis of the lens and between the lens and the first imager. The second imager is disposed so as to receive light reflected off of the mirror reflector element. The mirror reflector element is partially transmissive to a first type of radiation and is partially reflective to a second type of radiation incident thereon. The first imager is more sensitive than the second imager to the first type of radiation, and the second imager is more sensitive than the first imager to the second type of radiation.

A display system for a vehicle includes a head-up display unit operable to display, at a display area at a windshield of the vehicle, information that is viewable by a driver of the vehicle when the driver is normally operating the vehicle. The head-up display unit includes a K&#xf6;hler illuminator having a light source and an optical element. A reconfigurable mask is backlit by K&#xf6;hler illumination generated by the K&#xf6;hler illuminator.

A method of testing a camera for vision system for a vehicle includes providing a camera configured for mounting and use on a vehicle. The camera is operable at selected ones of a plurality of register settings. A test pattern is disposed in the field of view of the camera and at least two frames of image data are captured with the camera using different register settings having noise filtering at a respective one of at least two levels between a maximum noise filtering and a minimum noise filtering. The signal to noise ratio is measured for each of the at least two frames of captured image data. A texture value is measured for each of the at least two frames of captured image data. A compromise is selected between noise reduction and texture preservation.
