A common-mode voltage cancellation (CMVC) circuit, is disclosed. The circuit includes a first set of coupled inductors, each having a primary winding defining a first polarity, and a secondary winding. The secondary windings are electrically coupled in series. Each primary winding receives a phase voltage having a common mode voltage component from a respective input line. The circuit includes a second set of coupled inductors comprising at least one primary winding and at least one secondary winding The at least one primary winding receives a second voltage from the series connected secondary windings of the first set of coupled inductors. Each at least one secondary winding is coupled in series with a respective input line such that the common mode voltage component received on input lines will be reduced at an output of the set of secondary windings.

Method and apparatus for common-mode voltage cancellation

A power module includes an input bus, a switching device, and an output bus. The input bus includes a first coating of a high permeability magnetic conductive material and is configured to receive input direct current (DC) electrical power from an electrical power source. The switching device is electrically coupled to the first input bus, and is configured to selectively connect and disconnect to facilitate converting the input DC electrical power into output alternating current (AC) electrical power. The output bus includes a second coating of the high permeability magnetic conductive material, and is electrically coupled to the first switching device. The output bus is configured to supply the output AC electrical power to an electrical load.

Electric motor structure to minimize electro-magnetic interference

A power-converting apparatus, such as a power module, may include a base plate (), a first direct current (DC) bus and a second DC bus (). A power semiconductor component () may be electrically coupled to one of the buses, and may be disposed on a substrate () physically coupled to the base plate. The power semiconductor component may be made from a high-temperature, wide bandgap material, and the substrate may be exposed to a heat flux based on an operational temperature of the power semiconductor component. At least a first capacitor () may be coupled across the first and second DC buses, and at least second and third capacitors () may be respectively coupled across respective ones of the first and second buses and an alternating current (AC) return path. Capacitors () may each be located inside the power module to establish circuit connections sufficiently proximate to the first power semiconductor component to reduce a formation of parasitic inductances, and further may each be located physically apart from the substrate and thus not exposed to the heat flux.

Electromagnetic interference mitigation system and method

An alternating current to direct current (AC to DC) power conversion system is provided. The system includes a rectifier configured to convert an input AC voltage to an initial pulsating DC voltage. The system also includes an inverter configured to convert the initial pulsating DC voltage to a converted AC voltage. The system further includes a plurality of transformers, each transformer including a primary winding paired to a secondary winding, wherein each of the primary windings is coupled in series with the other primary windings, wherein the series coupled primary windings are coupled to the inverter to receive respective portions of the converted AC voltage. The system also includes a plurality of bridges, each bridge coupled to a respective secondary winding configured to receive a respective portion of a transformed AC voltage from the respective secondary windings, and coupled in parallel to the other bridges to provide a combined DC output voltage.

Alternating current to direct current power conversion

A circuit board assembly is configured to attenuate and prevent electro-magnetic fields from interfering with operation below a desired cutoff frequency, of electro-magnetic interference (EMI) susceptible circuit board electronics disposed within a shielded enclosure, while allowing signals to be transmitted between the EMI susceptible circuit board electronics at frequencies below the desired cutoff frequency, and circuits or devices external to the shielded enclosure.

A phase-shifted PWM dc-to-dc converter includes a pair of switched half-bridges defining taps. The primary of an output transformer is coupled across the taps to receive AC, and produces transformed AC which is rectified and filtered to produce the output dc. Zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) is maintained over the full range from zero load current to maximum load current by the use of an auxiliary circuit including an 'inverting' second transformer having primary and secondary windings serially coupled with capacitors. The primary-capacitor serial circuit is connected between a first half-bridge tap and reference potential, and the secondary-capacitor serial circuit is connected by an inductance between second half-bridge tap and a reference potential.

Phase-shifted bridge with auxiliary circuit to maintain zero-voltage-switching

A power converter generates direct voltage and includes a phase-shifted PWM bridge with first and second controllable switches connected as a half-bridge with a first tap, for generating AC at the first tap. An output transformer includes a primary winding coupled to the first tap. A full-wave rectifier is connected to a secondary winding of the output transformer. A filter is coupled to the full-wave rectifier for producing filtered output direct voltage. Resonances create surges which may undesirably result in energy loss. A second transformer includes a primary winding coupled to receive the resonant surges and a secondary winding at which transformed surges appear. A second rectifier is coupled to the secondary winding of the second transformer, for rectifying the surges. The energy of the surges is returned or coupled to the source or load. In one embodiment, the full-wave rectifier is a bridge rectifier.

An optically powered drive circuit and a method for controlling a first semiconductor switch are provided. The optically powered drive circuit includes a photovoltaic cell configured to receive a first light signal from a fiber optic cable and to output a first voltage in response to the first light signal. The optically powered drive circuit further includes an energy storage device electrically coupled to the photovoltaic cell configured to store electrical energy received from the first voltage and to output a second voltage. The optically powered drive circuit further includes an electrical circuit electrically coupled to both the photovoltaic cell and the energy storage device. The electrical circuit is energized by the second voltage. The electrical circuit is configured to receive the first voltage and to output a third voltage in response to the first voltage for controlling operation of the first semiconductor switch.

Optically powered drive circuit and method for controlling a semiconductor switch

A power converter includes an output filter circuit including first and second inductive elements; a voltage source coupled to the output filter circuit, the voltage source for generating a voltage across the output filter circuit, the voltage including an alternating voltage component, the alternating voltage component causing the application of an alternating current to the first inductive element of the output filter circuit; and an attenuation filtering circuit. The attenuation filtering circuit includes a first magnetically coupled inductive arrangement for generating a first opposing alternating current in response to the alternating voltage applied to the first inductive element of the output filter circuit; a first combining element for combining the first opposing alternating current with the alternating current to partially cancel the alternating current, thereby producing an attenuated alternating current applied to the second inductive element of the output filter circuit; a second magnetically coupled inductive arrangement for generating a second opposing alternating current in response to the attenuated alternating current applied to the second inductive element of the output filter circuit; and a second combining element for combining the second opposing alternating current with the attenuated alternating current to substantially cancel the attenuated alternating current.

High attenuation filtering circuit for power converters

A dc-to-dc pulse-width-modulated phase-shifted full bridge defines two taps, and the bridge switches are operated to produce alternating voltage between the taps. A switchable inductor is connected between each tap and a reference potential. The inductors are switched into circuit during low-load conditions to provide additional energy storage for zero-volt switching (ZVS) of the bridge switches. The switching of the inductors may be by mechanical, solid-state, optical, or magnetic switches. The magnetic switch may be a transformer winding. The switched inductor may be transformer-coupled.

Phase-shifted PWM bridge with switchable inductors to maintain zero-voltage switching at light load

A low-ripple power supply includes a storage capacitor coupled across load terminals, and an inductor connected to a source of voltage including a varying or pulsatory component and a direct component, for causing a flow of current to said capacitor through the inductor. The varying component of the inductor current flowing in the capacitor results in ripple across the load. A winding is coupled to the inductor for generating a surrogate of the varying inductor current. The surrogate current is added to the inductor current to cancel or reduce the magnitude of the varying current component. This cancellation effectively reduces the varying current component flowing in the storage capacitor, which in turn reduces the ripple appearing across the load terminals.()
