Implementations of a two-piece electrical connector are provided. In some implementations, the two-piece electrical connector may be used to conductively connect two electronic devices (e.g., audio equipment). In some implementations, the two-piece electrical connector may be configured to reduce signal degradation (e.g., skin effect, noise, distortion, etc.) during transmission between connected electronic devices. In some implementations, the two-piece electrical connector may comprise a plug and a jack configured to connect together and thereby complete an electrical circuit. In some implementations, the plug and jack may each include two contacts. In some implementations, each contact is a segment of a foil conductor that is a single unitary piece of material (i.e., there are no breaks or soldered joints). In this way, through the use of foil conductors having a unitary construction, signal degradation is reduced between electronic devices connected together by a two-piece electrical connector.

Novel peptides that inhibit the release of microparticles from cells are disclosed. The peptide contains at least one VGFPV motif at the N-terminal and has a length of 10-100 amino acids. Compositions and methods for treating AIDS or cancer by inhibiting the secretion of microparticles

New methods for diagnosis and treatment of human dormancy syndrome-related sequellae are provided. Human dormancy syndrome (HDS) is characterized by elevated serum ratio of rT3/fT3 compared to a population of normal subjects. HDS includes fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, cancer, autoimmune disease, obesity and related dormancy conditions. Dormancy and HDS-related sequellae are imposed on humans by infection with lipopolysaccharide (LPS; or endotoxin)-producing organisms, especially those that are intracellular and those that create antigens that stimulate the TLR pathways. In such instances, the elimination or neutralization of the LPS signal along with the infectious source is required to impact the sequellae of HDS. Treatment includes use of novel and non-obvious doses of antibiotics, optionally including agents that decrease the adverse effects of endotoxin.

Diagnosis and treatment of human dormancy-related sequellae

New devices and methods for diagnosis and compositions and methods for treatment of cancers use combinations of antimicrobial agents and agents that can reverse dormancy and hibernation pathways. We unexpectedly found that surprisingly low doses of anti-hibernation compounds can substantially inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro and can successfully treat cancers, including metastatic cancer. We also unexpectedly found that antimicrobial agents and anti-HDS compounds together can increase the degree of inhibition of cancer cell growth in a synergistic fashion. We conclude that combination therapy with antimicrobial agents and anti-HDS compounds can be effective in treating human patients with cancer.

Diagnosis and treatment of cancer related to human dormancy

New methods for diagnosis of human dormancy syndrome are provided. Human dormancy syndrome is characterized by elevated serum ratio of rT3/fT3 compared to a population of normal subjects from which subjects suffering from fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, obesity, dementias including Alzheimer's Disease and related dormancy conditions are excluded, and the presence of one or more findings related to reduced activity including torpor, chronic fatigue, insulin resistance, dementias, obesity and the like. Treatment of human dormancy syndrome is directed toward increasing fT3 levels or decreasing rT3 levels, or both, using pharmaceutical and/or behavioral methods. Other conditions that are associated with HDS can also be treated using T3 therapy, with or without specific psychological, behavioral or pharmaceutical therapies.

Diagnosis and treatment of human dormancy syndrome

A multi-compartment spray dispenser with common pressurizer includes a single container divided into four sub-chambers, each of which is separate from each of the other sub-chambers. Each sub-chamber has its own separate outlet. A pumping mechanism is common to the sub-chambers and causes pressurization of the sub-chambers simultaneously. When it is desired to dispense liquid from one of the sub-chambers, a hose connection is coupled to the hose connection on the container, thereby opening a flow path for liquid through a hose connected to the hose connector and a nozzle having an actuating valve. Should flow of liquid slow, it is easy to re-pressurize the sub-chamber through operation of the pumping mechanism.

This invention pertains to the general field of chemical and biological assays which employ electrochemiluminscence (ECL), also referred to as electrogenerated chemiluminescence. More particularly, the present invention pertains to certain classes of chemical moieties which strongly quench ECL, and the use of these ECL quenchers in combination with ECL labels, for example, in ECL assay methods which employ an ECL quencher and an ECL label. One class of such quenching moieties are those which comprise at least one benzene moiety. Sub-classes of such quenching moieties are those which comprise at least one phenol moiety, quinone moiety, benzene carboxylic acid, and/or benzene carboxylate moiety.

These methods comprise contacting a sample with a reagent labeled with an electrochemiluminescent chemical moiety and capable of combining with the analyte of interest, exposing the resulting sample to electrochemical energy and detecting electromagnetic radiation emitted by the electrochemiluminescent chemical moiety. Further provided are methods for detecting and identifying the presence of a multiplicity of analytes in a liquid food or food homogenate. These methods comprise immersing a diagnostic reagent holder, provided with a multiplicity of reagents, into the food or food homogenate, removing the diagnostic reagent holder from the liquid food or food homogenate, and detecting and identifying the presence of a multiplicity of analytes of interest bound to the diagnostic reagent holder, thereby detecting and identifying the presence of a multiplicity of analytes of interest in the food or food homogenate. The invention further provides an enzyme immunoassay for coliform bacteria. This assay comprises inoculating a sample into a suitable medium for coliform reproduction, immobilizing coliforms present in the medium to a suitable surface, treating the surface with an antibody directed to the immobilized coliforms and detecting the presence of the immobilized coliforms immobilized to a suitable surface.

The present invention relates to a composition suitable for use in an ECL assay wherein electromagnetic radiation emitted by the composition is detected. The composition includes an amine or amine moiety which, when oxidized by exposure to an effective amount of electrochemical energy, forms a strong reducing agent in the composition; and an electrolyte capable of functioning as a medium in which an ECL moiety and the amine or amine moiety can be oxidized by exposure to electrochemical energy.
