An energy recovery system and a method of recovering energy are disclosed. In one arrangement, an exhaust gas conduit system guides a flow of exhaust gas generated by a combustion process. A heat exchange fluid circuit guides a flow of a heat exchange fluid. An electrical generator generates electrical power from the flow of heat exchange fluid. The heat exchange fluid circuit is configured so that heat is transferred from the exhaust gas to the heat exchange fluid while the exhaust gas is flowing through the exhaust gas conduit system.

A rotor assembly has a sealing system for sealing at apexes or faces of the rotor. An apex seal or face seal comprises a compliant member that is configured such that the shape or orientation of the compliant member can change in use in response to a change in the speed of rotation of the rotor, a change in the pressurization across the compliant member, or a change in clearance between the sealing surface and a mounting element to which the compliant member is mounted, to deflect towards or away from the sealing surface.

Rotary engine seals

A seal arrangement for effecting a seal between first and second components arranged for relative rotation about a common axis. Seal arrangement includes a first seal surface associated with the first component, and a second seal surface associated with the second component. First and second seal surfaces are presented for air-riding interaction with one another during relative rotation between components such that, in use, a pressure drop is maintained across seal arrangement. First seal surface incorporates a plurality of spaced-apart hydrodynamic lift-generating features and plurality of ventilation recesses, each ventilation recess being interposed between respective pair of lift-generating features, and wherein each ventilation recess has depth measured normal to first seal surface which is greater than maximum dimension of each lift-generating feature measured normal to first seal surface. Seal arrangement may be embodied in compliant filament seal such as a leaf seal or a brush seal.

Seal arrangement

A seal for sealing between two component parts permits a leakage flow of fluid from an upstream side of the seal to a downstream side of the seal. The seal has a jet-producing formation which produces one or more fluid jets that impinge on and thereby restrict the leakage flow.
