An aircraft fuel system includes a first fuel storage tank arranged to store a first fuel, a second fuel storage tank arranged to store a reduced oxygen fuel, and a fuel tank inerting system arranged to provide a reduced oxygen gas through a fuel contained within the second fuel storage tank to generate the reduced oxygen fuel within the second fuel storage tank. The fuel tank inerting system may include a fuel tank sparging system to inject the reduced oxygen gas directly into the fuel contained within the second fuel storage tank to generate the reduced oxygen fuel.

Aircraft fuel system

An aircraft fuel system includes a first fuel storage tank arranged to store a first fuel, a fuel oxygen reduction unit arranged to generate a deoxygenated fuel from the first fuel, and a second fuel storage tank arranged to store the deoxygenated fuel generated by the fuel oxygen reduction unit, and being arranged to supply the deoxygenated fuel to an engine.

Flow-metering fuel systems and related methods are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a pipe defining a flow path for fuel, the pipe fluidly coupled to a combustor, a first portion of the pipe having a first cross-sectional area, a second portion of the pipe having a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area, the second portion downstream of the first portion, and an actuator to adjust a flow rate of the fuel in the pipe based on a first pressure of the fuel in the first portion of the pipe, a second pressure of the fuel in the second portion of the pipe, and a temperature of the fuel.

Flow-metering fuel systems and related methods

Apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to power thermal management systems with heat of a working fluid therein. Example thermal management system include: a thermal transport bus loop fluidly coupled to at least one heat source exchanger and at least one heat sink exchanger; a turbomachine including a turbine and a compressor, the turbine and compressor rotatably interlocked via a shaft, the compressor coupled to the thermal transport bus loop, the turbine including an inlet and an outlet, the inlet connected to a first point of the thermal transport bus loop via a first flowline, the outlet connected to a second point of the thermal transport bus loop via a second flowline; and a control valve coupled to the first flowline, the control valve to adjust a mass flowrate of the heat exchange fluid in the first flowline based on a speed of the shaft.

Heat driven thermal management systems and methods for operating the same

Methods and apparatus to maintain a state of a fluid in a system are disclosed. An example system includes a pump including a primary inlet, a primary outlet, and a secondary inlet, at least one injector including a first inlet, a second inlet, and at least one outlet, a third conduit coupled to a first conduit upstream of the primary inlet and coupled to the at least one injector at the first inlet to deliver the fluid, a fourth conduit coupled to a second conduit downstream of the primary outlet and coupled to the at least one injector at the second inlet to deliver the fluid, and a fifth conduit coupled to the at least one injector at the at least one outlet to receive the fluid and coupled to the pump at the secondary inlet.

Methods and apparatus to maintain a state of a fluid in a system

A turbo engine for an aircraft includes a gas turbine engine having a combustion section and a fuel system to provide pressurized fuel to the combustion section. The fuel system includes a fuel tank and a boost pump and a main pump driven by an accessory gearbox that is powered by a shaft of the turbo engine. The boost pump and the main pump are arranged in series. The fuel system also includes an auxiliary pump and a controller to operate the fuel system in (1) a first mode in which the boost pump and the main pump produce pressurized fuel for the turbo engine and the auxiliary pump is deactivated, and (2) a second mode in which the auxiliary pump is activated and produces the pressurized fuel for the turbo engine while bypassing the boost pump and the main pump.

Fuel systems for aircraft engines

The present invention is a sensor device comprising: a housing; a processing unit assembly disposed within the housing, wherein the processing unit comprising a high frequency oscillator, a first voltage meter, a low frequency oscillator, a second voltage meter; a probe having a predetermined shape and profile attached to the processing unit and extending from the housing a predetermined distance; and a first sensing unit integrated into the probe and in electrical communication with the high frequency oscillator and the first voltage meter; a second sensing unit integrated into the probe relative to the first sensing unit and in electrical communication with the low frequency oscillator and the second voltage meter.

Soil and environment sensor and method of use

Example split valves for regulating a first flowrate and a second flowrate of a fluid within a closed loop systems are disclosed herein. An example split valve includes an electrohydraulic servo valve coupled to a first piston via a first hydraulic flowline and a second hydraulic flowline, the first piston to include a piston shaft, a first head, and a second head; one or more bellows fixed to at least one of the first head or the second head, the one or more bellows to hermetically seal the fluid from a hydraulic fluid; and a control system connected to the electrohydraulic servo valve, the control system to adjust the first flowrate and the second flowrate of the fluid through a first fluid chamber, the first piston to be located in the first fluid chamber.

Split valves for regulating fluid flow in closed loop systems

Pursuant to various embodiments, systems, apparatuses and methods are provided herein useful to monitoring one or more components coupled to shaft-driven gearbox of an engine or motor. In some approaches, the systems include a sensor, such as a vibration sensor, mechanically linked or mounted to the shaft-driven gearbox. The vibration sensor may be used to monitor a vibration response of one or more components coupled to the shaft-driven gearbox. It is contemplated, by monitoring a component coupled to the shaft-driven gearbox using the systems and methods described herein, is possible to proactively detect one or more faults in the component and/or to identify one or more maintenance actions.

Systems and methods for monitoring component failure in a gear train based system

This invention is a slotted cylindrical rotary valve assembly for an internal combustion engine, comprising of two sets of gear driven slotted cylindrical tubes in a cradle apparatus. Each set has two tubes located co-axially and rotates co-axially, and each tube is slotted to allow for improved transport of a fuel/air mixture and exhaust. In one embodiment, an intake set of tubes transport fuel/air through apertures on the tubes. The exhaust set of tubes transport exhaust through apertures (slots) on the tubes. The rotation of the tubes brings the apertures in timely alignment to allow fuel/air injection and exhaust in synchronization with the cyclical operation of the pistons in the combustion chambers. Effective sealing in one embodiment is achieved by using a modified piston with an extension wall extending longitudinally from the top of the piston to seal intake and exhaust orifices at the top of the chamber.
